WARNING: False #shitpost. This is a genuine question.

Folks using screen readers, how are hashtags like #shitpost conveyed? Does it need to be #ShitPost to be pronounced properly? Do you have any other tips to consider for making posts more reader-friendly?

We here at Fedi Towers believe in inclusive snark.

I worry about the famous website which sold pens. They purported to be on an island and, before Camel Font, was hard to pronounce safely.

@LibertyForward1
Not a screen reader user but I have seen a few posts that stated;

- Please put hashtags at the end of the toot (so screen reader users can skip them if too many)
- Anything over 5 hashtags is just plain dickish
- Capitalize correctly: ShitPost versus shitpost so it can interpolate the individual words (as I recall)

I'm sure there are other points but that is what I recall. Please, if mistaken let me know as I genuinely would strive to improve.

@LibertyForward1 I started capitalising hash tags shortly after joining the fediverse after seeing somebody say that they needed to be for their screen reader to read it properly.

I’d also love to know if there is anything else I could be doing though (alt text being the other obvious one)

@LibertyForward1

My understanding is that individual words in a tag need to be capitalised to be read correctly 🙂

@LibertyForward1 one of the things that bugs me is how hashtags tend to automatically get picked up in lowercase as you type them, at least in @IceCubesApp anyway and I’m forever correcting them.
