We'll see. This seems plausible enough long term, given the financial incentives, but from where I sit (firmly on the outside) this doesn't look like a step in that direction.

The real question for me is to what extent the protocol will be independent of the company. Lately Cory Doctorow reports that at this point he is managing his own bluesky server and does not have to interact with the company (and its terrible terms of service) at all while doing that.
