The ADAS systems in my new car did not see or respond to the kangaroo that jumped in front of my car at 5am this morning. It was me who braked, and swerved, but not enough to avoid hitting and killing the poor thing. 😭

@cyclicautomata Hitting a roo is a terrible thing. Your post made me freshly sweat from mine four months ago. I hate it.

With my foot resting on the brake, and the car at 55kmph under cruise control, I have a _just_ better than even chance of not hitting a roo at night. Any faster than that, and I cannot stop in time.

So, you'll find me at pootling along at 55 in an 80 or 100 zone near #Bywong at night. Proud of it. I pull over and stop to let others pass.

At 110kmph on the Federal highway, I am simply playing the odds. There's no sense in braking nor swerving, it cannot possibly help and the result can only be somewhere between terrible and catastrophic, no matter what I do.

My car, a 2020 Subaru has ADAS. The roos seem to be utterly invisible to it. My partner's 2025 VW seems the same.
