With entirely disproportionate effort, I bring you these shitty clips of me trying to show off the green skirt I made a while back, and it unsurprisingly immediately becoming Karvinen Time.

#HistoryBounding #Cats

The skirt is my own pattern, and very very basic as far as Victorian walking skirts go. It's something I made to wear at home, and has been quite comfy, but also it's nice enough that I wouldn't be displeased by wearing it anywhere else either. Karvinen is of course Karvinen, and used to me scooping him up in any old way when he's not actively climbing me himself.
@sinituulia The skirt is beautiful!
@Heartofcoyote Thank you! I have a couple of the exact same style, but the fabric is surprisingly nice!
@sinituulia You said elsewhere it requires a petticoat to hang properly? So for someone living someplace sticky (the MidAtlantic is hella humid), would a light layer incorporated as part of the skirt (a liner) work, or would it require redesign of the skirt?

@Heartofcoyote Sadly something like this needs a "real" petticoat! (Let me try to dig up a photo of one for you in a bit, I don't often take pictures of the ones I wear.)

You can wear a skirt like this without, but it will cling to your legs, get tangled in them, and just generally be an unflattering and cumbersome nuisance. 😄 The petticoat keeps it away from the legs, so if you were to stand somewhere with a breeze from below, like a river bank, it will actually be pretty cool...
There's ways to add hem stiffening so the skirt kicks out, but these usually will feel horrible against the legs and destroy your shoes.

@Heartofcoyote Wow, I had to go pretty deep into the archives to find even one petticoat. 😆
Anyway. They're really rather full, and the tucks give the petticoat a LOT of structure, so even if it's a thin fabric, it's fairly powerful. Under the green skirt above I have a comparable one to this, just a little bit floppier since I've been wearing it for probably weeks now, and cotton relaxes when worn.
From the back, you can see the ungodly amounts of fabric necessary to make the back pleats/gathers of a skirt fall gracefully and nicely... But it does also keep the skirts from tripping you.
@sinituulia Gorgeous. Brava!

@Heartofcoyote Thank you!

This petticoat I made at some point before 2017, maybe even as far back as 2012? Once they exist they sort of keep existing, because they're very adjustable!

@sinituulia The skirt's lovely, and so is the glimpse of Karvinen Time. Thank you for sharing them.
@Fishercat Thank you, it turned out nice! And you're very welcome, Karvinen Time happens a lot but isn't often captured on film
@sinituulia still want one! 🥰
@dec_hl Skirt, not very difficult to make! The requisite petticoat to make it actually look nice? Oh wow that's gonna be a hassle no matter what
@sinituulia i just noticed, either one of you is rather small, or one of you is rather large :D
@mavu I am not a large woman and Karvinen is not a small cat. By our powers combined, I have no idea what size anything is any more
@sinituulia I was waiting for The Little Dance, but then ... plot twist! 😄😻
@sindarina Little Dance can only be overridden with cat cuddles and gently rocking!
@sinituulia @catsalad I love that cat 😍
@akamran @catsalad He's a good cat! Sure, he was a nuisance last night and this morning, but I love him
@sinituulia You really should be quite pleased with that waistband. The cat acrobatics showed how well tailored it really is - no rolling, tucking, creasing, just staying in place looking perfect. And that cat is such a lover.

@spiegelmama Thank you! I wish I knew what stars aligned to make it so, I figure it's a combination of the stiffness of the fabric and the somehow exactly right height of the waistband? A shorter one would curl or bite into the waist, a longer one would wrinkle? I'm going to have to try to replicate it if I make more skirts!

Kerv, he's a good boy. He doesn't know cats are not supposed to agree to such cuddles!

@sinituulia I love everything about this! The skirt, the blouse, the cat in your arms, the swinging about.
@nancylwayne Thank you! It took a silly amount of time for me to make three little clips. 😅 Not the cat holding and swaying part, I literally did that just now until my back started complaining about holding Karvinen...
I've made two almost identical blouses like this and might make a third one if left to my own devices!
