How does your MC feel about their childhood home?

Kira: it was a loving home, both biological parents (father and mother, both female) head stable part time jobs as development planers & engineers. They traveled through the saver parts of the Union, with her and her two sisters (one older, one younger). It all changed with the catastrophic event on Friendship station which only left her.
Her second family Anika, her mother the Icequeen wasn't much around as the foreign affairs minister of terra, her father was an instructor on the alliance. He worked hard to handle family and job. Both Kira and Anika where often with him, for the Cadets/other instructors they were a bit of "lucky charms."
Both suffered a lot as he died on a work related travel as he defended civilians against an Eltaryn attack force. The mother took time off but never had 'the right skills' to handle two daughters. This is why both ➡️

Arkham: Had a loving Father and a helicopter dragon mother. He always softened the blows for her and took great care that his little Star wouldn't suffer to much under the mother's draconic behavior. As he died in an Eltaryn attack Arkham's world changed dramatically, as the mother then decided to move closer to the Unions rim to avoid the Union Childcare & Social services it got only worse. With 15 she ran away and lived on the streets, something to unheard of in the core territory of the Union.

Ashlei: as an AI especially designed to support Terrans, in a combat situation and care for them long term on Alliance vessels, Ashlei had a very different 'childhood.' She is in Terran years only 6 y.o. for an A.I. this is quite a long time.

Stuff I think all the time about it and so do my characters. And I think I am not alone with this.
STUFF
Makes up most thoughts in your mind too I bet.
But why?
Because stuff is important.
Stuff gets hot.
Stuff can relaxe.
Stuff is the number one category to sort things into you don't have the mental capacity to handle right now.
Just call it stuff for later.
Boom stuff is gone, we got stuff done.
It's even better in German if we translate stuff to Zeug.
It flies we don't have a name, how about Flugzeug - flying stuff.
It drives? Fahrzeug - driving stuff.
Need held climbing - Steigzeug
Wanna ride your horse get the Zaumzeug.
(I have no idea what's that called in English and will not spend the amount of energy equivalent to cooking a mug of tea for a search engine...)

If a whole language can do this you can do too. Don't get mentally exhausted, with STUFF.

Tell us about something a character of yours feels confident about.

I'll let Kira talk for herself.

Kira: "My role, death & change. Everyone meets their end someday. I will not live forever as cursed as I seem to be in surviving others. I make every year count to prevent unnecessary deaths.
Science & medicine extended our lives to a 150 years, if I remember right the oldest Terran died 2 years ago with 168 to natural causes, still without the changes we made around the Eltaryn attack, we would die as children, on a toxic wasteland left by 'humans'*. Instead now, we are a central part of the Union. 72 Worlds defending others against the Eltaryn & improving the lives of a gogol amount of people. I know that we can't save everyone but I try & I will succeed in saving as many as possible, because we can change stuff to the better."

*the distain in Kira's voice is quite notable even without high empathy levels.

Would your characters enjoy camping? Why or why not?

Kira: in combination with something else, a festival, climbing or hiking absolutely, she is a bit hesitant about festivals thanks to her ex Tanya and what followed, especially avoiding any desert based festivals.

Arkham: NOPE reminds her to much to her time on the streets.

Ashlei: technically she is sort of a camper, quite literally, ~40 people life inside her and what else is a spaceship than sort of an camping van in space. But I doubt you find a 200 meters 9 stories high tent for a space ship to sleep in. So this might disqualifying her as 'a true camper' in 'the person' sense.

Do your characters play any sports, or did they play any in the past?

Play? None, fitness in the military is mandatory this making training a necessity. The people have options for what they do for fitness. And even the Cargobay of the Ghoz'Tarc is a great place to train, it's even build with that purpose in mind with different functions and the ability to secure containers in mud air thanks to gravity manipulation.

Kira is on the "harder" side. Martial arts, climbing, running are basic training for her and she train's daily. Not all the time the same stuff but daily.

Arkham to her horror realizes that she actually enjoys dancing especially Breakdance and some other more body taxing variants.

J.'s muscles aren't created out of thin air, she works out hard for them.

Even our slightly chubby C.E. Charlston Trawella joggs and does gymnastics. It's kinda self-explanatory if you crouch inside the ships tighter parts.

Personal pride isn't real a thing in the 23 hundreds. It's one of the things that are seen as the unwanted human emotions.

Most people are thankful for their place or their opportunities they have, their oath they are walking.
Kira is like this.
Arkham has a bit more of a proud strike in her.

Ash is simply not programmed to be proud.

Get ready it's messy

Kira: Terran, spacer, space born, colonist, colony [redacted], Alliance Fleet spacer, fleet [redacted], colonial residency.

Arkham: Terran, Terra born, colonist, colony [redacted], Alliance fleet spacer, fleet [redacted], Terran residency.

This are a lot of drawers that create a whole wardrobe of personal categories per person and the main reason is to make clear which part of the government has to pay at which point, usually citizens don't notice anything about all the beurocracy in the background, but ist marked in their ID's with more fancy numbers.

Tell us about something that disgusts your MC.

That is more generally than my MCs, the Union is build on trust, open communication, cooperation, compassion, equality & responsibility. If someone went to jail they still can become a high ranking military or politician as long they show growth, responsibility & as long they didn't went to jail for something as a politician or military person. Lack of this virtues crosses a lot of people and the society as a whole the wrong way & punishment will follow.

This is why Bethosians have a hard time with the Union, they where the last core world that joined & they have a matriarchal society in which males are a rare occurrence (birth rate 999:1). Which leads to them being locked away on the home world in a golden cage.
If Bethosians would just allow studies, solution like Terrans & Talithi have them, non gender dependent pregnancies, would surely be possible in some years.

Which of your characters is the most controversial? Why?

The time will tell but I'm sure different people will get different characters different than what I intended or feel attacked by some choices I made, if not in honesty than at least to piss their "I have an opinion everyone needs to follow" mindset around like a fire hose that got released from its fire fighter.

The Internet is full of such people and it's only an time pass = 100% graphic until you meet someone like this online riding their small dick energy like a fire hose dragon.

If I come across as rough today it's because I am.
I coughed the whole night and my filters aren't working, right now. I already yelled at my doorframe because I ran into it and bumped my head against it ...

I guess from all my characters the pretty much canned Fallout 76 medic/mother/cannibal Candy would be seen as controversial.

Well the NIN movie Jenseits von Antaris was made by SkaLi, the complete movie is in an ancient Terran language called German. Every sentence rhymes with the one two sentences ago. The story is about an old human couple from the time Terra Unika rose to power & tells us about the fears, the emotional track is devastatingly bitter sweet."

How would your MC respond if they were falsely accused of a crime?

This is highly dependent on the situation.

Kira in her free time: Look for the seriousness of the accusations, if the Union police is already involved she would have to obey. She might be able to take control over fleets & personal but the Police is a civilian to law protection & enforcement part. There Job would be taking her in & she would not fight against it.
On mission the same scenario could play out completely different. If the mission is in danger she would finish the mission first even if this would create problems later. If she is taking control over military asset's via her SHADE Status only other SHADEs can remove her forcefully as long she stands in that position. Usually this only lasts til a certain military action is wrapped up & she would have to stand down immediately & hand herself over to the law enforcement for investigation. ➡️

Arkham in her freetime: well basically the same as Kira but with more "vocal range."
On mission her commanding officer could put her off & order to hand in with the law enforcement.

Ashlei: now it gets juicy. AI's aren't person's only persons can commit crimes, but AI's are considered property of entities like the alliance.
It would come to the following scenario, confiscated said property. Disconnect AI from its main frame & limit its compute heavily slowing it down, should this interfere with military actions the military actions have priority, stand down til the action is solved successfully according to the leading military officer. Send AI into storage, inform AI expert & AI owner, wait for both to arrive.

Law enforcement has to make sure that the accusations are valid enough before acting on them, everything else is considered an action in bad faith & will be investigated.

Yes not writing daily on it or at least weekly and only writing when I feel like it. This makes it an incredible slow process because I haven't written much since November.

AJ:"Cursing my dreams, recollecting yesterday, the whole week before it, sometimes month or years. My memory is a garbeld mess. Something prevents me from making memories like an average Terran. My brain seems very selective with some memory while others are discarded as soon as I close my eyes to sleep. It makes no sense & the memories I desperately want to fade are present every night. At times it seems like a blessing that I only read about weeks of my nightmares, not remember them myself. It seems that my memory works best for military stuff. I still can de & reassemble my weapon in under 15 seconds even if I have a day or two between them. I can still cook & pep up MREs.
I even remember her smell, but her face... The words I remember.

Can you think of any real-life people who share traits with the characters in your WIP? How do these similarities affect your perception of the characters?

I'm not sure about that, all my characters are a blend of traits, skills, influences, etc.

Everyone of them has at least one point with me in common.
My main goal is to make them feel like people and not make them likable or so, they have also traits of friends that inspired me to use this traits or people that annoyedbme,but I don't think I like any character more or less so 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Have you ever written anything while inebriated that you later ended up keeping in your WIP?

No. Alcohol is reserved for social situations celebrating, like seeing my partner for the first time after 8 weeks or longer, family reunion or the rarest occasion I want to get drunk. Even as rare as it is, last time was mid global pandemic shutdown one, I'm not abstinent but I avoid alcohol as much as possible even as an ingredient until it's something I find appropriate. Than it's clearly limited to my goal. I had hard alcohol problems and as a child of a successful 30+ years dry alcoholic I know what I'm doing to myself boozing myself. I went to hospitals as a teen because I didn't knew. I don't need drugs other than Nicotine on occasion and caffeine daily.
Weed makes me crazy organized for a time but a that shit is to expansive and I don't like turf that much that I want that ugly taste.🤢

So TLDR no, because in social situations, writing isn't what I do.

Kira took a 'glass' out of her freezer, It steamed as the moisture of the air came into contact with its frosted surface, creating a little cloud of fog that waved down the mug shaped body of the handleless, open container.
She pured a dark red, semi liquid from a designed bottle into it, the bottle reed Original Klingon Blood wine.™
Technically the open container wasn't glass at all, but a crystal that could be frozen & transfer the cold rapidly, than slowly. The clear semi liquid had a sharp alcohol & hot metal note. As it got into contact with the the frosted surface, the heat transfer created water drops running down the 'mugs' body.
Forr a brief moment, it looked like the red inside was loosing the thermal battle, as the surface gently crystallized only to return to its former semi liquid state after some seconds. She grabbed it with her left hand, gentle ➡️

She swallowed the full content in one big sip, put it down & poured herself a second before she closed of the bottle. As she wanted to grab the mug with her tight hand but stoped. She slumped down in front of the crystal vessel. Burrowing her eyes in her arms. Her voice sounded muffled.

"Swex Sis this was meant to celebrate our first missions success with you at the helm and now I'm downing half a bottle myself."
She grabbed the crystal with her whole left hand than her right too.
The cold stung in her flesh.
Tears started running down her cheek. From the pain inside or in her hand, she didn't knew. Her voice was shaking.

Kira forced herself to sound as normal as possible: "Only if you can grant wishes."

Ash's voice got less computery: "I'm not a Djinn, what is your wish?"

Kira snorted: "I wish alcohol could intoxicate me..."

Ash wanted to correct her that it technically still did and she just wasn't feeling it but changed her answer: "Shall we... talk?"

Do any of your characters have food allergies or sensitivities?

Arkham has some weird interactions with meats.

She lived on the streets of a colony for quite some time & nothing ever came up, but as she joined the Alliance something changed. Her hypersensitivity started & it gets worse if she eats meat or animal products.
It's independent from the source, if it is lab grown, a real animal (which falls under sentient & sapient cruelty on a lot of planets) or printed in the EPI & basically made out of Equil. That why she eats mostly vegan, at times she tries ovo lacto vegetarian stuff but almost always it gets worse.
It seems the food isn't the source of her hypersensitivity but a contribution to the scale in which her body reacts.
Since she joined the alliance she relies on "dampeners" that tune down her body's reaction to stimulation.
Meat or animal products seem to scramble with that to a painful degree.

The question hung in the air, like a 500 kilo orbit to ground slug in an antigravity anomaly. The interviewing person waited patiently.

Ariæne only starred into the room. Their eyes focused on something not visible for anyone else.

Ayanamis voice came through the rooms intercom. "I think you won't get any answers out of them today and honestly, I prefer it that way. You have might taken up enough of our hospitality. I kindly suggest that you depart immediately, before I might come to the conclusion, that you are not as valuable as I thought you to be. This would be highly... regrettable." The last sentence almost sounded cheerful.

In case the SC is part of a crew they have to bow to the law enforcement according to what the captain seems necessary. Like getting released from duty to be taken into custody or being hold on board for the remainder of the mission & handed to Union law enforcement later.
In case of a foreign entity like Rimworlds the Union uses their "we"re not Union" stand against them. They have to fill out a request to Union law enforcement, going through the ministry for outward affairs, to handle the matter & may be allowed to represent their case to Union courts. It's a protective measurement because Union Citizens have died under foreign entity laws, that's why the Union doesn't shy away of using its military as a lever to handle such circumstances.➡️

⬅️ In case of politicans or brass members of the Union Military or the Union Alliance Military it's handled differently.

While the Unions Ministry for outward affairs handles the requests of foreign entities they stay in power as long they are not deemed guilty, in contrast any minister has to lay down their work immediately if an inner conflict arises. If as an example Terran Minister for outward affairs Sigourney Webster (Kira's second mother) would be accused by anyone inside the Union to have acted against the laws, she would have to temporarily lay down her mandate immediately. Same would be true for Admirals like Ron Hackett-Anderson in the Alliance.
That said members of the Union/Alliance, like Kira, who are able to call on their Shade status, can temporarily put this on hold, if a military action requires it, which will be investigated & demands justification the moment they would do so.

Can your MC swim? If not, why not? If so, how did they learn?

The buoyancy of Terrans is not regularly tested on Terra itself.

Most waters are still considered toxic even if water refurbishment has come a long way.
Usually Terran bodys tent to not sink in the oceans, in cleaned water it looks quite different. Most swimmers come from colonies and it depends on the local composition of 'water' in combination with other factors, how good they could learn to swim.

However the Alliance does provide survival training for its military cadets and this most of my characters can swim, not very effective because most only 'swim' in micro or non gravity and air or vacuum are the worst to swim in, because the low resistance and compression capacity make for terrible propulsion capabilities. It would actually be more efficient to f*** your way forwards in micro/non gravity than try to propel yourself via swimming motion.

How do you use social media as an author?

Well pretty much all I do on Mastodon. Otherwise I still have a YouTube profile but I'm not really using my channel for anything anymore, just watching videos and commenting at times.
I don't use shitter anymore.
I have a tumblr account but I'm mostly watching anime gifs from series I loved as a teen.

Mastodon is the only platform where I participate actively this days and most of it goes into answering writing prompts and at times discussions/chats with authors.

Oh wait there is this somehow not dead yet Gothic dating site, from the earliest 2000. where I stil have a profile but also not using it for anything other than feeling nostalgic and thinking about erasing more traces of my digital past...

Honestly I think it's secretly run on an University Server and the student responsible just left one day and since them no one noticed. 🤔
That could be a story.
