Sad reality. 🥺

@itsfoss always remember to donate to the hardworking open source devs! ❤️
@itsfoss Wieso Soldaten? Die leisten ihren Beitrag zum Krieg doch nicht freiwillig?

@tinderness @itsfoss
There are almost always people who volunteer to fight in every war, in addition to conscription.

(And every free country is based on the deaths of soldiers who fought for it, conscripted or volunteer, which is the meaning of the image.)

@dougmerritt @itsfoss True, but what drastic image to explain voluntary work for society. Kind of weird self-pity, isn't it?

@tinderness @itsfoss
Certainly you could say that, yes. Art, and appropriation of art, is often very dramatic or overly dramatic.

It's not necessarily an *essential* thing to say here; that's a personal choice.

@itsfoss It's very true that without open source, the world wouldn't be what it is today 🫶.

@itsfoss a silver lining: it contradicts the notion that "competition is necessary for innovation."

The "competitors" just leech off the good will of people like open source devs.

@itsfoss it's why you talk about all predatory closed source product i guess ? hypocrit
@itsfoss this is a bit hyperbolic. I'm pretty sure veterans who risk life and limb don't feel any solidarity with open source devs who deal with assholes on the Internet. I also don't believe most open source devs feel they must sacrifice themselves for society - that seems a bit unhealthy.
@itsfoss The truth should be closer to those solarpunk images where some put in a hand, all benefit and no mass exploitation is attempted so all can enjoy the fruit of their labor.

At the moment society is also being crushed, you'd need the billionaire kaijus or something.
