#USInvaders & allies recorded the war using war photographers, North Vietnam & Viet Cong did it through #art.

In #TetOffensive 3 phases in 1968, North Vietnam army & Viet Cong attacked military & civilian sites across South Vietnam.

#USTerrorists retaliated with #MyLaiMassacre on 16 March 1968 - 504 civilians, mainly women & children, were gang-raped & mutilated. Those who helped the Vietnamese were seen as traitors. Only one of the US terrorists - William Calley, was tried. He was only sentenced to house arrest for 3.5 years for the atrocious war crimes. None of the other US terrorists were ever punished for participating in same atrocities on our peoples.

The massive tunnels system saved many Vietnamese lives. That's why I get upset at white people who called us tunnel rats & are calling #Palestinians tunnel rats too.

More tunnels for another purpose were made in DMZ - site for most violent of exchanges between the north/south. #USTerrorists were releasing thousands of tons of bombs on Vinh Moc village which they believed was a supplier of arms/food to a resistance base on Con Co island .

Villagers dug - with their hands - a 2 km long tunnel, 30 m underground, for safety/survival. Vinh Moc Tunnels included family rooms, community halls, kitchens, wells, health clinics & a kindergarten. 60 families called it home from 1967-1972; 17 children were born inside it. Not a single person from Vinh Moc village died in the war.

Built 30 metres below ground-level, #VinhMocTunnels had 13 openings of which seven opened out into the East Sea.

@PhoenixSerenity

I don't know why anyone would criticize people for building and living in tunnels when faced with continual bombing. Going deep underground is pretty much the only way to survive.

I'm curious about the engineering of the tunnels in case in need a tunnel too.

@alienghic Terrorist invaders don't want liberation or sovereignty for the locals. They want to slaughter people & take over.

@PhoenixSerenity

I feel like the type of person who was pushing for a colonial war to subjugate a population is the same kind of person who crushes unions, outlaws protest, and creates militarized police.

It's all about creating a desperate underclass they can exploit.

@PhoenixSerenity The My Lai Massacre was something that was taught to us going through Army basic training back in the mid 90s.

What was emphasized was something like that should *never* happen again. Between that and the Nuremberg trials, “just following orders” was not a defense nor an excuse.

That as a “professional” soldier, hold yourself and your fellow soldiers to a higher standard. I have no idea what’s been taught these days, but I remember that like it was yesterday

@PhoenixSerenity But the recent actions of the military tells me that either that wasn’t taught universally or was chucked out the second it was “inconvenient”.

I’m not sure what’s worse at this point

@hasani It has gone full fascist. I put nothing past these present day US terrorists.

@PhoenixSerenity @hasani

Whiskyleaks said on camera "No more woke war"

@n_dimension @PhoenixSerenity What an idiot. There seems to be a competition between him and Trump on who can be the most insecure man alive

@PhoenixSerenity My understanding is that this was a turning point in the attitude of the U.S. public toward the war. But, it still took *way* too long for the U.S. invaders to leave, in (typically) the most chaotic way ever. Too many people think only about the horrors of that war for soldiers and marines, and not the obvious horror for the people who were living there!

I am ashamed of so much that my country has done. Such an overwhelming level of harm toward people abroad *and* at home.

And I've heard people say "My country, right or wrong." That attitude is the one we need to break first and foremost.

@kimlockhartga It was part of the tipping point for most US citizens - especially when the napalm girl photo was seen, worldwide. However, it wasn't until mass body bags returned to US that pull out was seriously considered.

By 1972, US could see that their invasion war was imploding. After 3 million dead Vietnamese & 58,000 dead US soldiers, the victory they were confident of was elusive.

The invasion on Vietnam exploited 8,744,000 US military personnel serving on active duty with a peak troop strength of 549,500 in 1969, 14.3 million tons of bombs/artillery shells - 676 billion wasted.

17 years & 2 months of a wasted invasion war, wasted lives & wasted resources. Yet, US never learned a damn thing & keeps doing the same shit in different sovereign nations.

@kimlockhartga I'm afraid 2026 is going to be a repeat of no pull out until many US body bags pile up. (Just from a different place)

@PhoenixSerenity ugh.

Can women take over, please? Too many of these dudes use violence as a reaction to everything.

@kimlockhartga Only if they're antifascist, have no serious internalized misogyny issues & have a proven record of fighting for humanity. Otherwise, no. Look at Bondi, Noem, Leavitt in US. Look at the many Nazi women who had no problems taking part in Holocaust.
@PhoenixSerenity I should have said women of color. I've seen how WOC take no shit, and get shit done!
@kimlockhartga I'd amend to POC women with exact same qualifiers. I've encountered more than a handful of POC women who have same issues with internalized misogyny & another layer of internalized racism too. That is why the qualifiers I mentioned are very important, for me. Any POC woman, willing to volunteer themselves to help misogynistic, bigoted jerks are not my comrades - they're in the enemies camp.

@PhoenixSerenity oh yeah l just realized I had blocked oit of my mind the WOC who are like that.

Perhaps what we may need is a huge population-reducing event that forces people to work together (once they are done competing against each other?)

@PhoenixSerenity Horrifying.

And yeah, Hegseth talked about air superiority over Iran. 🙄 You had control of the skies over Korea and Vietnam, and what good did it do?

@kimlockhartga He'd be saying different if he had to put his own ass on frontlines in Iran.
@PhoenixSerenity When my mom and dad were dating, my Dad was in the Air Force (as a cartographer in Alaska for most of it, not a pilot) and my mom said he would need to not re-up if he wanted to marry her. She wanted nothing to do with the military.
