When Netanyahu bombs schools and hospitals in Gaza, and Trump bombs schools and hospitals in Iran, and our politicians say nothing, we clearly need better politicians.
@randahl Yes, we certainly need better politicians, but I think it is more urgent in Israel and USA
@randahl The US and Israel will need to be stopped. Curious what nomenclature will be affixed to the Allied and Axis powers of the next generation.
@fgbjr Call ourselves the United Nations again, just to spite the historians and confuse generations of students.
@randahl putin would say "they bombed themselfs to make us look bad" and somehow it feels more competend

@randahl

They will feel the burden when voted away...

@bitchboss @randahl
But voting people are not always choosing the right ones (and speaking of MAGA, they don't even realise they are not the right ones, once in function and destroying the system).
@randahl they don't personally bomb schools and hospitals. people are carrying out those orders.

@randahl

> we clearly need better politicians.

*insert always has been meme*

@randahl we need politicians that think and act like we ..

@randahl

And besides better politicians, they need real diplomats!
Not sons-in-law and slimy real estate cronies.

@randahl The problem is that we’re so dependent on them, we can’t even afford to provoke them with criticism. I hope the politicians are urgently working on *that*. Works better than statements.
@mkoek I home The Hague justices start a full investigation.

@randahl

It is sad, but you are totally right 😥

You cannot imagine the reactions and the words (here in #Spain) of the speakers and leaders of the right-wing parties and mass media.

It is disgusting 🤮 to listen to their rants to defend the criminal bombing of #Iran. Some of them are even asking for the #US dictator to retaliate and pressure more the country.

Our right-wing politicians really miss their 2003 implication (#Bush, #Blair and #Aznar) in the invasion of #Irak.

#pedrosanchez

@randahl
We need *good* politicians - not just better
Slightly less murderous, slightly less genocidal, and slightly less bought isnt much
The bar is currently so low

Fortunately (in the UK) the #greens have huge momentum and have a great new member of parliament.....reasons to be hopeful

@OliverNoble @randahl the solution isn't better politicians. The process of gaining political power makes even well meaning people worse.

The electoral process forces you to focus on electoralism over change, and by the time you're elected you no longer share the interests of your electorate.

Any system which gives individuals power will eventually devolve into self serving autocracy. Either slowly in drips and drops or suddenly in a huge cascade.

Power is the problem, not the solution.

@randahl Politicians are the problem. We don't need better ones, which defies description, we need LEADERS!
@randahl or better voters? More compassionate?

@randahl The most horrifying aspect of this is that both of these monsters were fairly elected in modern democratic republics by free citizens. Both of them represent a deep and troubling weakness of democracy itself, to fall victim to fear, ignorance, bigotry, and propaganda.

I don't propose an alternative to democracy. For all its problems, it still offers the best hope for humanity. But we sure do need to get a lot better at it.

@randahl I wholeheartedly agree with you

😢

@randahl

I don't even know why Israel even bothered to bomb that painting of a helicopter on the ground.

There weren't any paintings of kids by it. 🤷‍♀️
