From the Mastodon documentation:
"All links are counted as 23 characters, no matter how long they actually are, so there is no need to use a link shortener to save characters. In fact, using a link shortener is actively discouraged."

Ok, one issue less to worry about. π
Now I only need to find an anonymous and no clicks-generating, indirect link method to reference content from Big Tech and/or right-of-center media, social or not (e. g. YT, X, NYT, maybe even Truth (A)Social from the #LieATollah (built with Mastodon source code!).
Consider archiving the Big Tech post on, say, archive.ph, and then you can link to the archived version. (Can't say whether this will work reliably on all Big Tech platforms.)
It's an especially useful technique if you want to comment on something that quickly got deleted.

Good idea.
I had been using Archive.IS. (I think, a white frequented URL.
.mIn the meantime, I read in an article, that it was a Russian (spy?) site, presumably profiling people., so I was using a VPN. With alternating countries. Needless to say, they soon found out and are now blockinat least 2 VPNs, alas.
Any idea about the ownership and the...

...political, ethical, etc. leanings of the site you are suggesting!?!
OFC, I'd like to avoid falling into the same trap again, as you can easily understand.
