House Update: roofer back today because we had a new leak 😭😭😭 - turned out he missed a but of lead flashing - so no harm done and is replacing it today. A much more serious problem is the other wall which is causing a lot of consternation. Today’s job is stripping it out to see if there’s any rubble behind causing the damp to gather. Then we’ll need it framed and boarded which I cannot do myself so hoping to get a price next week. Need to get this done before the insurance guys come back to decorate. #OldHouse #StormAmy #Insurance

@Janet_52square be careful up that ladder and good luck finding the problem. 😃

@Janet_52square

That's a rather nicely composed picture, with the roof angles and the shading and so on!

@suearcher Thanks! 10s timer on my phone. This is me stopping for today: the sun has come right round.

@Janet_52square @suearcher

😳

Nice to see the old-fashioned laths.

@snaptophobic @suearcher sadly this is their last stand, they’ll have to come out now.

@Janet_52square @suearcher

A shame, but that’s progress.

@snaptophobic @suearcher I just want to sleep in my bedroom.

@Janet_52square

Well done! I know it's not a good situation, but the contrast between the smooth wall and the laths is very pleasing.

@suearcher Still no sign of the cause of the damp. Every workman has a different opinion!

@Janet_52square

Oh good grief. Why are houses so difficult!

Woah, there are boards behind the drywall! Every house I've been in, it's just floating drywall with only studs backing it, for interior walls at least. Made it convenient for the plumber to get in behind the bathroom wall, at least.
@cy This house was built in 1839. The construction is lathe and plaster. The lathe are these thin strips you see and then a thick plaster mixed with horsehair was applied directly to the wooden structure beneath. Sadly we’ll need to plasterboard it when this is stripped out and dry.
Wow that's... a really old house. This one is old enough, was built in the 1950's. But not THAT old!
@cy I’m in rural Scotland- there’s houses round here built in the 1600s… 😇 this one is just a baby.
