Turns out, you CAN install #3DMark on #Linux, via #Steam!

The trick; compatibility setting!
You MUST enable ANY kind of #Proton, so that the "Install" button gets enabled.

I'll try cachyos-proton, the recent release.

Also, turns out, i CAN run the special optimised V4 variant, on vanilla #Manjaro! I don't HAVE to run the #CachyOS V4 kernel, in order to use their V4 flavour of #Proton - seems to run just fine on my box (Zen4+RDNA4).

But now, i want to benchmark generic Proton vs their V4!

๐Ÿงต 2/n I WILL NOT switch to #CachyOS, because i'm too old, to live on the bleeding edge!

Trying out CachyOS felt just as unstable as #KDEneon - i need a stable box - i don't want to deal with package / update issues!

Yes, i'm old enough to use #Arch, btw / #Manjaro #Linux. I'm also old-enough/Millennial, to appreciate the Manjaro "slow-rolling" CURATED release schedule! ๐Ÿ––๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ‘

Manjaro IS up-to-date enough, without being too-bleeding-edge - curated Lagrange point, imho. ๐Ÿ˜‰

๐Ÿงต 3/n yes, this guy; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph-Louis_Lagrange - the Lagrange points!

It's an equilibrium metaphor, ok?! ๐Ÿค“

#Manjaro #Linux jives just about right for me - the maintainers are taking the bleed off of the #Arch edge!

I get to run the #CachyOS flavour of #Steam #Proton! (recent-enough MESA version in Manjaro - #AMD #FSR4 runs, in #Stalker2)

I'm very happy, using Manjaro, currently - BEST Linux #Desktop #UX, ever! ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿงต 4/n turns out, using #Steam (native, no Flatpack/Snap) and #Proton, i'm enabled to install #3Dmark on my #Manjaro #Linux box.

3D Mark actually starts, BUT it fails to run any #Benchmark. Also, it seems to leave my box in a "weird state" - reboot fixed it.

So NO, you cannot run 3D Mark on Linux, conveniently via Steam+Proton, afaik.

If you want to benchmark different Proton variants, like the v4 from #CachyOS, you SHOULD use in-game benchmark facilities.
