‘Linguini Houdini’ is a good one!

My wife has made up the rhyming phrase ‘grande importante’, which she uses to describe very important things that we must remember. It may also be insulting to several romance languages.

@0xabad1dea yeah, that's pushing it a bit.

My favourite bit along those lines is "lingua franca", a _Latin_ term for _French language_, but these days, idiomatically, means _English_...

(And probably don't get you started either about how much of a right illegitimate stepchild of a language English is...)

@0xabad1dea whenever people do this I wonder what je ne sais quoi—ah, shit. I wonder what ineffable characteristic they feel the latin or french phrases have that simply saying “in the broad sense” or “language at a given point in time” in english lacks, other than showing off how educated they are

also I especially love how they got the latin phrase slightly wrong (it should be “sensu lato”)
