I planted peas, radish, beets, arugula, and spinach yesterday. Most of the garlic is up too.

@firephoto I just harvested a potato and a carrot from last autumn. And I planted some potatoes from last year's crop that had grown the prerequisite "eyes."

We've had a crazy mild winter. Normally there's still snow in the garden.

We have had an extremely mild winter too. Most years we get at least a bit of snow, but not so far. Although, one of our biggest past snow storms was over spring break, so there's still time. Not that I'm looking for snow, mind you! 😂
@LibraryFinch @firephoto There's snow in the forecast for the beginning of next week, but they've been forecasting rain lately and that hasn't happened either.
@mlanger @LibraryFinch I don't trust the snow forecast but it would melt within a day if it does. Last year nothing really came up until the end of March and I planted on the same date, might be sooner this year.
@firephoto @LibraryFinch This would be really early for me. I usually don't start planting anything until the supermarket starts selling vegetable plants. I don't plant from seed very much anymore.
@firephoto @LibraryFinch I am definitely going to do okra again this year. The flowers are absolutely gorgeous. Once or twice a year I make a good gumbo; I harvest the pods, blanch them in boiling water, and then vacuum seal and freeze them. Then I've got them whenever I need them.
@mlanger @firephoto
I'm not sure i have ever eaten okra. Now I want to grow it to see the flowers. 😀
@LibraryFinch @firephoto If you do grow them and want to harvest the pods, be sure to cut them off when they are about the length of your thumb. They seem to grow about an inch a day and are too woody to eat when they're big. They like sun and heat. One of the few things I grow from seed.

@mlanger @firephoto
I love planting from seed, or at least the idea of it. Growing from seed can be very challenging though. I am now only doing it for things we really like, that can't easily be found as starts.

There's a Brazilian pepper that's really nice on salads. They are little and you can just pick them and plop them right in your salad after a bit of a rinse off, if needed. I've got about 6 of those started now. I'll be lucky if I get 2 full plants. 🙂

@firephoto @mlanger
Good points on the snow. I really think we're done for this year.
