Hey Fediverse, got a question for ya!

I've been using Linux for too many years to remember my time as a newbie very well, so I need some advice. What are your favorite websites/sources as a Linux beginner to get questions answered and learn how to do basic desktop things?

Think Linux Mint, not Arch, etc.

@berniework I wish there were an Arch Wiki alternative for the "regular" distros. While it's sufficiently distro-agnostic, I can't help but wonder if the lack of one for beginner-friendly distros turns people away from Linux.

@magitian @berniework what basic desktop things? The Bluefin docs are pretty damn good:

Though it is not a "regular" distro per say.

Welcome to Bluefin | Bluefin

For end users a system as reliable as a Chromebook with near-zero maintenance while providing developers with a powerful cloud-native development mode. Built with next-generation technology, for people who need their machines to get work done.

I suppose it is a bit of a nebulous ask. I'm thinking things along these lines:

  • Setting up printers
  • Installing software (Debian focus, so APT, Flatpack, .deb files, etc.)
  • Adding users
  • How to use SUDO properly

...that's a few examples. I know that most Linux distros don't have particularly robust documentation.

@berniework @magitian I did some of that for the Kubuntu Manual back in the day...
