I played Dark Side of the Moon the other Day. I had not heard it for years.

It may be sacrilege, but I still don't like it. Animals was their best work.

In fact, I'd go so far as saying it's their only album worth listening to

#Floyd

@Geri That's...an opinion.

I respect it even if I mostly disagree. Animals was great.

@Geri
It was years afterwards that I discovered the meaning behind "Me? I'm just a lawnmower."

#Floyd

@Fragarach what do you think it means xxx
@Geri
In the days before mechanisation, those estates that had lawns employed men to cut the grass with scythes.
They did this in small teams, line abreast and fairly close, so you could do it all in one pass. Accidents were a regular occurrence, hence "Me, I'm just a lawnmower. You can tell me by the way I walk."
Not sure why the Floyd dropped it in there, possibly to drive people like me mad trying to work out a rationale.
I found this out around the time I found out why Haha Road in Woolwich was so named. (There's still a haha running alongside the road BTW).
@Fragarach it's Genesis not Flloyd xx
@Geri
Ah, my old memory gets things mixed-up on occasion. 🤔

@Fragarach I like the idea

That the lawnmower is not the device, more the gardener who trims the grass with the device

Xx

@Geri I can hear that Pink Floyd made high quality music but somehow it doesn't touch me very much at all. Maybe it's too technical, too clinical for me. If I do feel the need for holy music of the boomer generation I prefer Zappa.
@edgeofeurope I prefer the discordant Van Der Graaf Generator xx
@edgeofeurope @Geri great choice, Hammill is so underrated, although my wife says his voice makes her want to punch things. Pawn Hearts is one of my fave albums.

@richardinsandy @edgeofeurope wooo

Still life just about edges it for me
But Godbluff too

And Quiet Zone is very beautiful in places Habit of the Broken Heart makes me cry every time. Also The Wave has incredible lyrics

Xx

@Geri @edgeofeurope all masterpieces, his vocal on ‘Childlike Faith in Childhood’s End’ always gets me. His solo albums are great too.

@richardinsandy @edgeofeurope frightened in the.

.........

. ........... SILENCE !!!!

seen him do that many times live, quite wonderful

@Geri ..seems you cover much more music area than me so far....
@kate I like all sorts of things xxx
@Geri ... so what about Acid Jazz from UK?
@kate name a representative artist xxx
@Geri Brand new Heavies ? Just for a start?
@kate I am not familiar but there is no such thing as bad music xxx
@Geri ..you so far didn't hear me sing .. which is the most basic definition of bad music!

@kate me too

I scare cats and curdle milk. Xx

@Geri ... we might share the same category then: The International Treaty for Banning of Mass Destruction Weapons mentions us somewhere, I'm sure!
@Geri This live version of the finale by a new generation is worth a listen https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IHrrHvKe95s&pp=ygUac2luYSBkYXJrIHNpZGUgb2YgdGhlIG1vb24%3D
The EPIC final of Dark Side of the Moon (Pink Floyd)

YouTube
@pthane that is one of the highlights of the album
@Geri Great to see real musicians, singers and a choir do it live. The same core group have recorded several rock classics: Tommy (highlights), Kashmir, Rising Sun, Sledgehammer, Africa. Smaller groups of Sina and friends have done loads more.
@Geri if you ask me most of what they released after Animals was self-indulgent twaddle. I like Meddle to Animals, but I was a teenager when they came out so they were part of the soundtrack of my youth.

@richardinsandy .
Meddle is superb

The Wall is overblown.

After that I lost interest

Apart from hanging on in quiet desperation is the English Way generally Waters' lyrics are like a 6th formers' words
