I'm at the launderette. It's really busy. A dryer finished so someone emptied it to use the dryer, the person who owns the clothes isn't here though. 3 ladies are chatting and folding the clothes. No one knows each other. It's all rather lovely.

Who knew that sitting in the launderette showed you a sweet side of life.

Also there's a man here unsure how to do the wash, he asked me for help, and promised he wasn't a weirdo. He's not a weirdo and now lots of the women are helping him too.

@Tattooed_Mummy I had a similar experience at the Aberfeldy Steamy, once. I was new to the area, and the regulars told me who I could ask for change without being grumbled at, and which was the best machine to use :-)

@Tattooed_Mummy I love it when people get to know each other and help each other at the laundromat. I have helped a first-timer figure out how to use the washer and dryer. It's a lot of work having to haul my laundry there, but I love most of the people.
@Tattooed_Mummy Wish we called it a Launderette. "Laundromat" is so clunky.

@kimlockhartga @Tattooed_Mummy the ladies at the laundrette in Croydon where I was staying at a friend's place never bothered to tell me I had to put the wet stuff in the spinny thing (50p pls) before putting it in the dryer.

I think it amused them to watch this dumb Yank keep wasting Β£1 coins trying to dry sopping-wet laundry because I guess UK washing machines don't have a spin cycle, before one of them finally told me about the spinny thing. This was about 20 years ago so maybe they do now.

@david

I've not used a launderette, but our domestic washing machines certainly have a spin cycle.

@kimlockhartga @Tattooed_Mummy

@CppGuy @david @kimlockhartga it's launderette machines do have a spin and it's quite effective but some laundrettes also have an extra spinning machine which is super good and gets out extra water, so you spend less on the tumble dryer. We used to have one but sadly the local launderette has been refurbed and now it's not there
@Tattooed_Mummy @AnnaAnthro Yeah, he’s probably the laundromat owner 😎

My boss, the Head of Housing of a council, many years ago, related to me the time she was in a launderette while on holiday.
A man asked her for help with the laundry as 'Women understand these things better and being a man, he didn't.'.
She told him that it wasn't because he was a man, it was because he was an idiot. πŸ˜„
@Maker_of_Things πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ tbf since ours went card only it's pretty complicated. I needed help first time I used it

@Tattooed_Mummy
I can appreciate that.

I think in this case, it was a long while ago, and the man was asking about how to 'actually do' laundry.
Which would have been fine if he just said he'd never done it before. But that is simple ignorance that anyone would have for their first time.

My boss didn't suffer fools. That she liked me, and we got on really well, was very reassuring.

@Tattooed_Mummy It's nice to know humans can do some things better than fuckin' AI. Also, your experience is something billionaires have never felt--trusting and helping other humans. Billionaires only experience transactional experiences, because they're assholes.
@Tattooed_Mummy
Launderette, female form of laundromat
@Tattooed_Mummy I've had a similar experience in Dubai. In my case, I was the weird man, who was unsure on how to operate the machines + dryer. (In India, everyone owns a washing machine, and we dry clothes on a line). There was this sweet lady who helped me out. I hope she is doing well.
