Just read this: “I wish the Indy sequels were grounded and gritty like ‘Raiders’.”

“Raiders” ended with GHOSTS

@tvaziri I can’t believe how many people forget Indy has supernatural fantasy baked in since the beginning. Perhaps they’ve not watched it in a while?
@tvaziri I see comments like this and I want to melt like a crayon.
@tvaziri ghosts that flew! They weren’t even on the ground…I’ll see myself out
@tvaziri It was all an interpretation of their imagination... remember that Indy and Marion had their eyes closed!
@tvaziri What bothers me about the last Indy is that is wasn't Spielberg directing. It is still not badly directed. But I demand Spielberg's directing. Even if it is the most insane movies ever ( I'm a huge fan of Crystal Skull )

@tvaziri
IMO the fantastical supernatural element worked in Raiders because it came as a last minute surprise after the rest of the film was (mostly) grounded in reality.

When every film begins with a different fantastical element, then the whole franchise feels more childish and cartoonish.

See also the difference between Marvel “origin” movies and the over-the-top slop they turned into eventually.

@tvaziri They all need more Shortround.
@tvaziri yep, had a massive argument with a colleague who complained the fridge scene at the start of Crystal Skull wasn’t “believable” enough. So I reminded him about the escape from the plane at the start of Temple of Doom!
