Hey artists on the Fediverse! Did you know that there's an account setting that could impact the ability for new followers to find you? If you're on an instance running Mastodon, go into Preferences > Privacy and Reach and make sure your account is marked as discoverable! The setting is called "Feature profile and posts in discovery algorithms (Recommended)" and it is normally enabled by default, but some instances may have this setting default to disabled instead. If it's turned off, not only will your account and posts not show up in any of Mastodon's discovery features, but folks won't be able to add you to any Starter Packs* either! So go check this setting and make sure it's turned on to help maximize your visibility to your audience here!

*Starter Packs aren't built into Mastodon yet (they're planning to add them Soon™), but external tools like https://fedidevs.com/starter-packs/ exist today and work great! Check 'em out if you haven't already and try making your own!

@LanceJZ You gotta know someone on there who is willing to generate an invite for you, since regular sign-ups are closed. Then they'd need to go to Preferences > Invite people and generate an invite link for you. It looks like you have at least one creature from Meow following you, so you might try asking them for an invite :)

@baralheia just wanted to join, I don't understand your questions. I'm a furry, and I write furry Sci-Fi. I guess second furry only account. I don't fully understand how Mastodon works.

@LanceJZ So I was asking just to try and figure out why you'd want an account there. Because of the way federation works on Mastodon and the wider Fediverse, you don't need multiple accounts on multiple instances to see users on another instance. You can already see and follow users on Meow from Mastodon.social and they can also see and follow you too - so there's no need to maintain multiple accounts unless you just want to do so. Same goes if you moved to an account on Meow. Of course, you CAN maintain multiple accounts if you want to! You just don't *have* to, and most users don't (outside of maybe a separate AD/NSFW account), so that's why I was confused and assumed you were wanting to move to Meow.

@baralheia yeah, I realize that now that I have two accounts. I thought they were separate, yet together or something. Thank you for clearing that up for me. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how Mastodon works.
