#Gospel Reading: #John 4:5-42

#Jesus passed through #Samaria

He came to Sychar where there was a well Jacob dug.

Jesus was tired and rested at the well around noon.

A Samaritan woman came to draw water.

Jesus asked her for water.  They then had a conversation in which the woman thought He was talking about physical water but Jesus was talking about the spiritual water of life.

Jesus asked her to call her husband.

She said he did not have one; Jesus said she spoke accurately, for she had been married five times, and living with a man.

Thus the woman perceived Jesus was a prophet and asked Him about whether they should serve God on Gerizim or Zion.  Jesus looked forward to the time when God’s people would not go up to a physical place but would prostrate themselves spiritually before the God who is Spirit.

She said she knew the Christ would come; He confessed He was the Christ.

The disciples returned, shocked at His conduct, but said nothing.

The woman left her water and told everyone in town about Jesus the Christ.

The disciples wanted Jesus to eat; He said He had food they did not understand.

When they wondered who had brought Him food, He said His food was to do the work of God who sent Him.  They should see the fields are white for harvest.  The reaper works unto eternal life, and the sower and reaper can rejoice together.  The disciples were sent to reap where they had not sown.

The residents of Sychar believed the woman, spoke themselves with Jesus, and were further reinforced how He was the Christ.

What are we to gain from seeing Jesus interacting with and proclaiming salvation among the #Samaritans?
