It’s loquat season in SoCal. My yard has only baby loquat trees I grew from seed so no loquats yet. But, these trees are all over the neighborhood both in planted by humans and planted by crows and squirrels. Some people don’t like them because the flavor is pretty mild but I like prickly pear and this is the “peach” equivalent.

That's really interesting, thanks for all this info! The shape of the fruit reminds me of quinces ... and pears, of course.

The seeds are these really big, hard seeds that remind me of chestnuts. Here's are some pictures of my baby loquat trees.

Thanks for the info and photos! I have to say that the leaves resemble those of chestnuts. Interesting, how nature works sometimes. 😃
