OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is heading for a loss of 14 billion dollars this year. Its market share is plummeting, and CEO Sam Altman recently admitted that they have โ€œscrewed upโ€ their product. All it takes now to accelerate that decline is ten seconds of your time:

Cancel your ChatGPT subscription.

#QuitGPT

@bitchboss can't cancel a subscription I was never conned into signing up for in the first place

@aburka

thx for y/ mod, appreciate that. Some peeps have been told is was gold instead of lead.

@bitchboss Me neither. No use for it and it is obviously evil. I haven't used any of them. I think most of the AI companies will go bankrupt and then we will be able to buy RAM again.

@jredlund

And a murderous second hand NVIDIA graphics controller for a cheap price w/ 64 gigs or so... woot!

@bitchboss @jredlund if only those worked well for 3D applications ๐Ÿ˜ญ Iโ€™m sure a lot of research universities will be happy though
@bitchboss Can you cite sources for these? I don't doubt it, but sources are always good.

Opinie | Rutger Bregman: Stop met ChatGPT. Jouw abonnementsgeld financiert Trumps machtsmachine

Kunstmatige intelligentie: Er is geen enkele reden om nog ChatGPT te gebruiken, schrijft Rutger Bregman. Er zijn goede alternatieven die niet meewerken met het repressieve regime van Donald Trump.

How to Fight Big Tech's Hype and Create the Future We Want

THE AI CON

@bitchboss

Even if that wasn't all true, using OpenAI products is a bad idea. Altman is of the Gates/Zackerberg school of business. Encourages everyone to use your platform, copy all the ideas that work, sabotaging the originator.

@bitchboss
I mean, I would, but I never had one in the first place
@bitchboss tried it but not impressed and never paid, datacenter servers will be very cheap to buy really soon

@neoFETCHER @bitchboss

With all those GPUs, failed Generative AI data centers should make for *Truly Awesome* arcade gaming centers!!!

@bitchboss If the AI is as good as they want everyone to believe it is, why didn't it lead them out of this mess? ๐Ÿ˜‚
@bitchboss Their logo looks like a bum hole even more in that picture ๐Ÿ˜…
@bitchboss I agree with the endeavour, though I don't know if I know many people who have personal ChatGPT subscriptions... I've always presumed that besides a small number of hypers, the money inflow for OpenAI is mostly either investor finance, or sales directly to companies who think it will let them fire more staff, or deals with other big tech companies to shove unwanted GPT into their products.
@bitchboss nocando: never use it, never started it. Sometimes you can see where things are heading, or should not be heading.

IT'S TIME TO QUIT. QUITGPT.ORG
@bitchboss Good riddance. AI shouldn't be a crutch for goddamned everything. I like how Apple is doing it. It's a tool. Whether that's removing a background in Pixelmator or stem splitting in Logic. It should be another tool in your tool belt. It should do useful things to accentuate human imagination. Not become a substitute for it. And OpenAI is trying to substitute it.

@praetor

Exactly. A tool. Not a lifestyle, not an autonomous weapon, and not a bloodthirsty coach.

@bitchboss
We were waiting for this, weren't we?

@Arlette_pt

AI is not dangerous in itself. It only becomes scary when people want to install AI as your second conscience. Polarisation and false information in the various LLMs make it a dangerous political weapon. Especially when it is in the hands of Trump, who expects AI to kill all his opponents while he sleeps so that when he wakes up, he will no longer have any opponents. Dialogue and the right to be heard fade into an automatic death sentence.

So yes, it's time to think carefully.
