An article about Brian Deer’s investigation into Andrew Wakefield’s claim that the MMR vaccine caused autism. Included were his discoveries that Wakefield had not disclosed that:

* he was paid £435,000 from lawyers suing vaccine manufacturers
* he had patented plans for a rival vaccine (this vaccine never amounted to anything)
* he had recruited of children through litigation networks
* he had misrepresented clinical timelines in patient records

I do wonder how many tens of thousands of people Wakefield has killed.

@forresttanaka He should be in jail for the rest of his life or ship him here where we still have the death penalty
@forresttanaka I wouldn't be surprised if it were millions. He's a monster and should die in prison.

@forresttanaka I wrote about it (16!) years ago too
Deer spoke here in London (in a dark pub, hence the terrible quality)

Also Deer likes suing people himself, doesn't like being told he's wrong about anything and is overall not a very nice man.

Doesn't take away from the huge importance of this work, that is still unfortunately widely ignored, but. https://noodlemaz.wordpress.com/2010/05/11/research-fraud-for-dummies/

Vaccines and Autism: A Measured Response

@forresttanaka He also did horrible shit to kids while ostensibly trying to prove that vaccines cause autism. (I'm not specifying because I don't even know how to CW that kind of thing without needing another CW on top of that)
@forresttanaka His studies were also laughably and scientifically too small (cohorts of 10-12 children, some of whom already exhibited symptoms of ASD), and he also bribed kids in order to perform lumbar puncture samples on them, sometimes without parental consent. Terrible doctoring all the way down.
@forresttanaka
Another one to go to the wall.
@forresttanaka
He could be the father of modern vaccine denialism/disinformation movement, so the calculation could be both rather easy and blood-chillingly horrifying.

@forresttanaka

> I do wonder how many tens of thousands of people Wakefield has killed.

These people are picked, supported and financed over campaigns that last decades.

The movement picked the man for a purpose. This is not about a disease with a 1% case fatality rate, autism or tens of thousands of people getting killed.

This is about Billions with a B.

It's about bio-terrorism.

@forresttanaka I heard he had moved to USA, but I forget which state. I do remember a doctor I trust telling me the area around where he moved to became significantly sicker than the rest of the state.
