I think my story is as polished as it's going to get for now, and I've found a magazine that fits really well

But I'm scared and so shyyyy 😩 What if it's too weird what if it's incomprehensible and my feels are too big what if I'M TOO MUCH

Like If I'm going to submit at all it's a good idea to do so early and I'll probably make myself do it tonight, I'm just.... I need a moment (stretches dramatically on the couch)

I did the thing yay me! And now to sleep though I feel wired as hell xD
@ljwrites Be sure to stretch after pitching! If it gets to the pitching stage anyway. How do you find markets? I see a ton of markets closing down instead of opening up!

@WeirdWriter It's not a pitch but a submission of a full piece--a submission period opened up for a mag that seems like a good fit for a short story I've gotten written, polished, and ready to go! They crossed my feed a couple of times before but this is the first time I was ready for them, thanks to a different call that I wrote for but missed the deadline on. https://plotthoundmag.com/submission-guidelines/

Feels kind of ironic that you're asking about markets when I rely a lot on places like Authors Publish, which I believe I found through a feed YOU provide. This recent post alone has 45 submission calls of mostly fiction & poetry if that's something you're looking for. https://authorspublish.com/45-themed-submission-calls-and-contests-for-march-2026/ I'm pretty sure they regularly run pitch and non-fiction calls as well. I also like their staunch anti-AI stance. https://authorspublish.com/keep-writing-human-why-ai-is-unhelpful-at-every-stage-of-the-process/

Submission Guidelines – Plott Hound Magazine

@ljwrites Hah! I thought you were going to tell me about a new feed I can add to the list!
@WeirdWriter Sadly no! xD Even that one source of calls would keep me full-time busy if I wanted to keep up with even 1/10 of them, which I don't. It's true about a lot of markets closing down, though--sometimes one would be mentioned in an article and I'd click over only to find out they haven't updated or made a call for submissions in years 😬 New ones are constantly cropping up, but there seem to be few "good" markets outside of highbrow literary or science fiction/fantasy/horror. Romance seems to have gone largely over to self-publishing/KDP/KU rather than mags, with a few specialist publishing houses in my feeds every now and then.
