#fediblock

i mean i'm reporting it, which should be the main way to do this, not fediblock

the fediblock is more for everyone to see what to look out for and report

PLEASE REPORT REPORT REPORT WHEN YOU SEE THIS NONSENSE

@benroyce I got one of these too. It's like "do ya think I'm really that stupid?" Like who tries scamming the social network where every 3 out of 10 people are MIT grads?

@benroyce The post in question just smacks of phishing, which is odd when anyone can set up their own server with any number of accounts. Spearphishing of course would be another matter.

Personally I think monetized content should be blocked and banned as widely as possible within networks such as Mastodon that are intended to be free. You may have noticed I never link to Youtube for instance. Instead I liberate the actual video and post it here.

@benroyce Thankfully, these accounts are getting reported. As a moderator I've seen 12 reports so far today, three of them in the last few minutes.

@jeridansky

thank you!

@benroyce You can go to https://mastodon.world/directory?order=new and see all the spammers from mastodon.world. I'm reporting the ones that haven't already been reported to my instance.

Edit: As of 10:26 pm PST (and perhaps a bit earlier) all the spam accounts seem to have been suspended; they no longer show in that list.

Mastodon

Generic Mastodon server for anyone to use.

Mastodon hosted on mastodon.world

@jeridansky

they need to clean up their act

@benroyce And they did! They got rid of the spammers and went back to approval-required for new accounts. Good for them! (They may be in Europe, so a lot of this spam activity might have been happening while they were asleep.)

@jeridansky

it's kind of depressing it has to be this way. glad for a good resolution though
