we're also talking about filtering packages on new installs (by default) to push users to the most functional option (yes this is because of steam, it's always because of steam)

@ultramarine what does pop shell change over default gnome?

id say an edition that advertises gnome should come with vanilla gnome, at least that’s what id expect upon considering that. you can get better UX out of gnome with extensions, but unless it’s something like what i assume pop shell is - an all in one - or if the workflow changes are substantial, one’s setup of choice might be too rough around the edges to ship in a distro

@zaire @ultramarine pop shell is basically an autotiliing extension for gnome developed mainly by system76 for pop_OS, the problem is that it's basically abandoned nowadays because of the distro migrating from gnome to cosmic

i don’t really see a need for anything like that though, and iirc that specific extension breaks the ability to drag the vertical border between two snapped windows to resize the both of them as the same time (but is very solid otherwise)
