I should have been posting here but forgot. I’m taking a chair making class in Maine with Peter Galbert! I’m on day 3, so here’s a picture from each day #woodworking
And here are some other pictures I should have shared along the way #woodworking
first pic here is Peter being annoyed by a bit being dull so walking over to sharpen it for 20s (not exaggerating) second is the drive in yesterday #woodworking
Day 5. Most parts go back in the kiln so they will be dry before they go into their mortises, and swell as they come up to typical humidity, locking them in place. Note also the requisite blood sacrifice has been made. #woodworking
I have lost track of days. Maybe day 6? #woodworking
Tomorrow we fit the rockers. #woodworking
Before fitting rockers #woodworking
After fitting rockers. #woodworkers
Packaged and ready to check 🫡 #woodworking
TSA didn’t trust my box. I made it into a kiln. #woodworking
Stage 1. Would have liked to do stage 2 tonight but I gotta start winding down #woodworking
Stage 2. #woodworking
Triple checking. #woodworking
Wrapping up. #woodworking
Rocking chair. Made as part of a Peter Galbert workshop in Berwick Maine, so many of the parts I received and shaped, joined, glued, wedged, pinned, finished, etc. Seat is eastern white pine, rockers are hickory, spindles are red oak, and the rest is ash. Glued with glue I made at home. Finished with BLO and soft wax I made at home. #woodworking
@frew 👍🏼 👍🏼
The rocking chair turned out great! But during the presentation, I pictured you with Clint Eastwood's expression in Gran Torino sitting on his porch. 😁
@ubo if only I had a porch (and a gun?) 😂

@frew What?!? You think you've earned a rest break?!?

Beautiful job!

@frew Nice job! It looks great.
@Jason844 thanks. I’m pretty pleased. There is, as usual, room for improvement, but I’m happy to sit in it
@frew It's beautiful! 😍
@javensbukan thank you 🙇‍♂️
@frew Looking good! What's the rocker material - looks different from the rest? And what's the finish on the seat?
@satterle seat is Eastern White Pine. Rockers are hickory. Spindles are red oak. The rest is ash. Finish is BLO and will add soft wax after it cures.
@frew so the gummy bears are solidified… BLO? something else?
@trs @frew I was thinking about solidified hide glue, but they could also well be gummy bears given the amount of gelatin in them :D
@trs hide glue made out of gelatin etc! I can share a recipe if you ever want to make it
@frew @trs LOL this is how rumors of Jolly Rancher sour apple glue being the best begin
@xabean @trs this glue was developed with actual flavored gummy bears so you’re not wrong!
@frew I mean, it's a box that's glowing red around the bottom. I wouldn't trust it either
@PalmAndNeedle @frew not a concern unless it starts smoking as well right?
@edm00se @frew unless it's in a smoking area, yeah
@frew You drove to Maine?!?
@satterle absolutely not. Check as in checked bag. I flew.
