#Book reccs please!

Beloved #Boyf has encountered the term 'Cosy Fantasy' and would like to try a few books.

For ref he says he's sick of unrelenting GrimDark, one of his favourite fantasy films is Hawk The Slayer BUT he is not above giggling at some of the more STOOPID elements of early (and let's be honest current) Warhammer 40K lore.

We already know about Legends & Lattes.

Also I don't think he cares about romance / spice but did enjoy the Wheel of Time TV series :)

@Faintdreams

Some of the earlier David Eddings series would probably qualify. Quite 'folksy' and 'twee' at times, and people either like it or loathe it. I did one series years ago and needed a 'palette cleanser' afterwards 😂

@bytebro thanks, I shall investigate 👍🏾
@bytebro @Faintdreams I was going to recommend "The Belgariad"!

@Faintdreams

Not everyone will classify these as cozy fantasy, but I do!

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison
The No Girlfriend Rule by Christen Randall
A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking by T Kingfisher
Shadows by Robin McKinley

@Zumbador thanks ! goblin king had been on my own tbr for a while and Ioved McKinleys Sunshine - will investigate all of these.
@Zumbador @Faintdreams +1 for the Goblin Emperor
@Zumbador @Faintdreams I've read three of those (all except the McKinley) and I agree!
@Faintdreams I finished Legends & Lattes just a few days ago and am also looking for more like that.
@Faintdreams
The Heretical Fishing series is *delightful* (also not yet complete)
Rebecca Thorne has a series (also not yet finished) that’s a bit more Legends and Lattes, first book is Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea (the relationship is established, so you don’t get the traditional awkward romance phase)
A bit more romance genre, but very charming: A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley (this series is complete)
Deals with the end of the world but is very silly about it: How To Defeat a Demon King in Ten Easy Steps
The Paladin series from T Kingfisher (start with Paladin’s Grace) (series not complete) is not quite “cozy” but everything turns out okay, and I really want the Temple of the White Rat to exist (there is some spice)
TJ Klune, the House in the Cerulean Sea
@TindrasGrove thankyou. Lots to dive into there. ! 👍🏾

@Faintdreams T.J. Klune and for cozy SciFi Becky Chambers

And with a bit of romance A Letter to the Luminous Deep and Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches

@ScubaET thanks. 👍🏾 Klune has been recced to me several other times, I really need to check out thier work asap.
@Faintdreams Anne McCaffrey’s Pern stuff is pretty gentle. It’s primarily fantasy, involving a society based around dragons and their riders, but it takes an SF turn later on that it’s not necessary to follow if it’s not your thing.
@Faintdreams Lindsay Buroker's books are good.
@MadTrekkie1 Wow Lindsay Buroker has written a LOT of books and series - any particular one you'd recommend for someone to start with ?
@Faintdreams Most of the series are good but I particularly enjoyed The Emperor's Edge.
