At the beginning of 2020 I was given a Philips bread maker. I've made a few thousand loaves with it since.. I enjoy making bread manually too, but with kids it's often great just to wake up to fresh bread with no additives, with minimal effort.

Now, the bread pan and mixer paddle are both PTFE coated. The 'non-stick' properties are very useful and it only gets exposed to carefully controlled temperatures, no hard tools, etc. Relative to background exposure, how concerned is it rational to be?

And if I am concerned, are there any alternatives? I know there are non-stick hydrophobic ceramic coatings available for frying pans etc, but a compatible breadpan and paddle?

Side note, kids clothes at major UK retailers, including and particularly school uniform, are still sometimes 'teflon coated'. Was shocked when I came across this and obviously avoided.

Will also add, I dumped all other 'non-stick' cookware ages ago. Got a great set of copper bottomed stainless steel pans at a charity shop, invested in a spun steel wok and cast iron frying pan (work just as well, added benefit of not worrying about temperature, hard tools, or occasionally scouring back down to bare metal when really dirty). For baking, just an old fashioned light greasing usually works and for difficult things I resort to a silicone baking sheet.
