⚠️ Update: #Iran's internet blackout has now passed the 24-hour mark with national connectivity flatlining at 1% of ordinary levels.

The measure limits civic engagement at a key moment for the country's future after the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei in US and Israeli airstrikes.

@netblocks A bit disingenuous. *External* connectivity had been restricted. Internet connectivity is working within the country. Local websites and app services are unaffected.
@Digital_Coolie @netblocks In that case, is this external disconnection a result of infrastructure damage (potentially targeted strikes), or simply blocking of the traffic (potentially complicit private telecom companies)?

@CaptainAyeAye @netblocks

The Iranian government has a policy of blocking external traffic during times of unrest to disrupt communications between foreign intelligence agencies and their agents and proxies within the country.

Such actors recently started to use US supplied starlink terminals, but those have also been jammed.

@Digital_Coolie @CaptainAyeAye @netblocks
As a Iranian who lives in iran, the blocking purpose is restrict people from news and feed false news to us.
You can think about cyber security but it's false.

@CaptainAyeAye @netblocks

As a martian who lives on Mars, how are you posting when the Internet is blocked in Iran?

@netblocks would be fun to see what pedo in chief's regime will do to US internet access if Americans had 1/32nd of the balls of the Iranians, to stand up to their government & oligarchs... Maybe they will grow some by the time the midterms are cancelled or maybe will have to wait till pedo king coronate himself & family as the only legitimate rulers.

@netblocks
Who benefits from a block in communications? Apparently the US/Israel military thinks it benefits them, or else they would not have attacked a broadcasting station in Tehran.

Iran’s state broadcasting authority complex was hit by airstrikes. They publish content over #radio, #television, and the #internet .

There is an ongoing war for your mind, to alter your perception of reality. What do you consider to be true?

Hacked Prayer App Sends ‘Surrender’ Messages to Iranians Amid Israeli and US Strikes

As Israeli airstrikes hit Tehran this morning, Iranians received mysterious push notifications saying that “help is on the way,” promising amnesty if they surrender.

Did I post something that was incorrect?
@Earl Yes.
@martin
Do you care to elaborate?
@Earl
1. The post is about internet and you talk about TV.
2. If you hit some TV infrastructure, it doesn't mean you want to cut all TV. See: #^https://mastodon.social/@MAKS23/116155669536660987

Obviously, you have no idea what the plan is or why they bombed this particular facility. Neither me. And most importantly, it has nothing to do with the topic.
We have to wait for more info.

@martin

The Iranian studio that was hit also streamed over the internet.

Other websites also streamed their content:

Their broadcasts were also live streaming through YouTube (which is no longer live after the attack):

The studio’s content was not limited to television.

The IDF says it destroyed the headquarters of Iran's state broadcaster IRIB in an airstrike in Tehran a short while ago. The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) building had already been targeted by Israel during the June 2025 war. According to the military, the
