Dear Colleagues,

The result in Gorton and Denton is deeply disappointing.

Instead of a Labour MP who can be a local champion delivering for Gorton and Denton alongside a Labour Government and a Labour mayor, the people of Gorton and Denton now have a representative who is more interested in dividing people than uniting them. .....
------
He does not understand and has learnt nothing from this drubbing

Oh well

@Geri Even on this level they try to mimic Reform.

No matter what the problem, it is someone elses fault.

@wanwizard yes, he went on blaming George Galloway pulling out his party and suggesting his voters should vote green 🙄

@Geri The fact they see the Greens as more of threat than Reform says all about where Labour is on the spectrum.

I'd never thought I'd lived the day Labour feared a party on the left...

@wanwizard the deepest shame of those that represent that party
@wanwizard @Geri They are, and always have been, controlling and authoritarian. They actually don’t care beyond being “in charge”.

@cyberspice @wanwizard The majority of the Labour Party are decent people and are appalled as to how the government is behaving since it came to power.

Angela Rayner's tax and standards investigations concluded on September 5, 2025. Once the ramifications of Laurie's investigations are completed, the party may have a figure to coalesce around

Xx

@wanwizard @Geri They lost me the day blair surfaced - never trusted that permanent grin!
@wanwizard @Geri
In many ways they fear those they spurned. Not the flighty come and go voter. They fear the loyalty that they turned away. And as you know when love turns to hate there is no return to normal. Its like a messy divorce!
@Geri ‘instead of a party-first drone to rubber stamp everything my handlers tell me to do they are represented by someone who represents them.’

@Geri

#KidStarver is a #narcissist, like #farage

#narcissistic behaviour is fundamental to #capitalism & #patriarchy

the whole system is dripping with it. and one of the clearest signals of this behaviour is how they can't see it themselves. how starver & farage have reacted to this epic defeat is called #NarcissisticInjury

but it's important to not make them suffer worse by laughing & mocking them. we should stay firmly on the moral highground & understand that we need their followers..

@poisonpunk I was not laughing at him, nor was I mocking him.

I was pointing out post G&D he seems to have decided to carry on in much the same way.

Re-appelation of his patronymic may be considered mockery, though 😕

Xx

@Geri i am not saying you were. i just wanted to make this point, to anyone reading this. not many ppl talk about the psychological dynamic of what's happening in the world, and it's very important we talk about it & reflect on ourselves constantly.

@poisonpunk @Geri

I think we've tried taking the "high ground" for too long. I am all for laughing & mocking at those in power who prove themselves, repeatedly, to be incompetent- I mean it worked for Liz Truss.

Starmer needs his lettuce moment

@cmsdengl @Geri unfortunately it's totally counter productive to laugh & mock narcissists. they'll only dig their heels in & double down.
don't do it, especially ppl in more powerful positions than your self who have a lot of ppl still on the narcissistic roundabout with them.
to win those ppl over, you need to give the narcissist room to get out without complete humiliation.
stooping to their level only puts oil on the fire & your attacks will backfire.

@poisonpunk @Geri

The psychology of the personal in international politics is like taking a cotton bud to a knife fight

@cmsdengl @Geri

why do you say that? in my experience the personal is very much connected to the collective, & vice versa.

i would say it's absolutely essential to discuss the psychological dynamic political parties & actors are using to keep the system rolling to their benefit.
understanding why people behave the way they do is essential to develop effective tactics to counter rising fascism.

@poisonpunk I am not worth thinking about xx
@Geri yes you are. but by replying to your post i am not just talking to you, but also your followers & others reading. you shouldn't take what i say so personal. if i have something to say to you personally, i would be absolutely clear about it.

@Geri ..to realise they've been on the #NarcissisticRoundabout with them bc they've been lied to, #manipulated #gaslit #exploited & #brainwashed by this immensely powerful #capitalist system, from birth, over generations. like we all have.

but not everyone has the skills, insight, understanding & intellect to see through all that. it took me 45 yrs to realise even i, a lifelong anarchist punk, was ..

@Geri ..brainwashed & conditioned for 20 yrs to believe the lies that only a working single parent is a good example to their kids. or that i am a mentally ill freak who is deluded in being trans.
@poisonpunk Prodhon seems relevant here xx

@Geri
He may as well have written "Dear PLP., we lost because the people voted wrong. No need to change anything we're doing"

Comes across as so arrogant. We so need politicians to be self-aware, and willing to admit when they get it wrong

@Cyclist He is a most odd fellow

@Geri

Cognitive dissonance is a bitch, isn't it? People , and especially groups of people, can keep believing in complete flights of fantasy right up until they are shown reality the hard way.

@Geri

Starmer is hopefully the last Prime Minister Reform UK will ever elect.

(Yes that's an insult. Just to be glaringly clear.)

@cstross @Geri
Oh, I thought he was a Tory? Now all of a sudden Reform has snatched him. Blimey!
@cstross Starmer is the last Prime Minister the Liduk will elect, mayhap xx
@Geri Likud did not elect Starmer. Rather, the Tories took aim at both their feet with a shotgun and the shrapnel missed Starmer.

@cstross we could be here for some time with this deepening point, Charlie

If Starmer IS his 'own man' that's seriously quite a whole heep of vapidity, if not, failure

Xx

@Geri Not merely vapid: he's a malignant careerist authoritarian who picked Labour under Blair but would have been equally at home as a Tory, and who climbed into the leadership position by backstabbing Corbyn (who TBF was no more leadership material than Michael Foot, but was at least not a vile right-wing hypocrite).

@cstross

Balsa Wood

The wood of the living tree has large cells that are filled with water. This gives the wood a spongy texture. It also makes the wood of the living tree not much lighter than water and barely able to float. For commercial production, the wood is kiln-dried for about two weeks, leaving the cells hollow and empty.

@Geri
Translation:
"Instead of a Labour MP who can be a local champion to Gorton and Denton for the Labour Government the people of Gorton and Denton now have a representative who is more interested in representing working people. ....."
@Geri Starmer, meanwhile, is doing a great job of uniting people. Just look at all the people he united into voting Green!
@Geri Do you have a source for that?

@nettings

Here you go

I can't squeeze it all in b/c I have a character limit on my instance. Notwithstanding, it gets quite dull
https://leftfootforward.org/2026/02/read-keir-starmers-letter-to-labour-mps-in-full-after-gorton-and-denton-by-election-defeat/

Read Keir Starmer’s letter to Labour MPs in full after Gorton and Denton by-election defeat

The Greens may have won here, but they simply do not have the resources, the activist base or the local knowledge to replicate this victory across the country

Left Foot Forward: Leading the UK's progressive debate
@Geri Appreciated. When reading something so utterly braindead, I tend to cling to the faint hope it may be fake news... :,o(

@nettings I am not given to telling untruths

Apart from a desperate act of self deception regarding dress sizes and jeans

Xx

@Geri @nettings
Good Lord. Starmer's really fixated on George Galloway here, isn't he? As if he is some kind of Mancunian kingmaker (he was only parachuted in as Rochdale's MP For A Day because Starmer's team made such a shitshow of the by-election).

I can't work out whether Galloway's just Starmer's particular bete noir; code for "People who don't like our support of the razing of Gaza;" or a proxy for Jeremy Corbyn, who also told his supporters to vote Green but an attack on whom might not play very well with the troops at the moment and would just amplify the disunity Starmer's imposed on Labour's core constituency.

@Stevenheywood @nettings Starmer NEEDS someone to blame
@Geri
The most telling thing in this graceless tosspottery is the need to gaslight his own MPs.

@Stevenheywood the whole letter then lists all the achievements they have done

Awful

@Geri WTF is he talking about? Did he accidentally send the one he'd prepared for if Reform won? The damn nerve.
@beecycling I wish a reporter had asked him, "What is her name?"

@Geri

Referring to Hannah Spencer as "a representative who is more interested in dividing people than uniting them" is an impressively huge LIE, even from Starmer.

Starmer is a disgrace to his office.

@Walrus @Geri Remember when, however hot under the collar a loser was, the proper way to start to comment was to congratulate the winner?
@Walrus @Geri Nonono, he's entirely internally consistent. He believes ordinary people should just roll over and let the rich and corporations do whatever they want, ie all be on the same side. The Greens want to represent ordinary people at the expense of the rich and corporations, ie dividing people.
@Walrus @Geri I remain convinced that Keith is a Tory saboteur who was intended to lead a political suicide campaign but somehow got unintentionally elected.

@JoeGrowling @Geri

Certainly possible, but I think he is just working for some very rich people, who will reward him later, much like Blair, who suddenly had lots of money after he was PM.

@Walrus @JoeGrowling Blair got his money from lots of dodgy sources like the Presof Kazakhstan

The Blair Story On TV was quite an eye opener

@Walrus @Geri He's just a blairite puppet - he follows their instructions without question.

Throw tony 'grifter' blair out of the labour party, (now some of the blairite supporters have been forced to resign in disgrace over their 'in the shadows' manipulation of the PLP), and that will see the final collapse of the blairite house of cards, and ultimately, the demise of starmer.

The problem then is that they've already purged labour of the left. Leaving them as a new tory party in waiting.

@Oyu_Fka @Walrus there are a lot of good Labour people in Parliament who are disgusted as to how Cabinet is behaving.

Please excuse me, but I would be reluctant to tar them all as being poisoned

Earlier in the week, I met Rebecca Long - Bailey, and I asked her if she could put some effort into getting rid of her zionist leader. She smiled in such a way as to say, "You are right" Same for Paula Barker and numerous others.

I just think they need a stir

@Geri @Walrus Yeh, I think you are right - they aren't all career politicians but there are still a lot of blairites that need to be removed....shabana mahmood springs to mind....

I'm also not convinced the blairite fifth column has been fully removed despite a few resignations.

Labour has a massive task on it's hands just to clean up it's act, *and* convince the people they are the home of socialism once more....before the next election.

@Geri The only form of “unity” Starmer understands is that of exterminating those who disagree with him. He promised an “end to culture wars”; what he didn’t say was how he would end them. Anyone not on his side is therefore “promoting division”—if only these other viewpoints would crawl into a hole and die, then there would be no more division.

@Geri The 'Starmer Project' can't exist without him, so his backers will do everything possible to keep him in place....including pretending 'nothing to see here', and just keep ploughing on with their aim to become the new tory party.

Reality is he's scared shitless. #pmqs should be entertaining next week - two election losers across the dispatch box, lol!

@Geri Maybe he should check in on what Mr. Streeting has been up to, he'd be in for a shock apparently
@Geri I'd stake money on that being his prepared statement in anticipation of losing to Reform's candidate and nobody revised it before release … yet another f'up to be added to the Labour tally for Gorton and Denton history file
