"You can go your entire career without ever talking to a disabled person."

Edited for context:
"In accessibility we outsource our understanding of disability to WCAG and to auditors, but talking to disabled people or understanding lived experience isn’t directly required to compliance based work."

@kitation talking about true accessibility at #SotB26.

@chicgeek @kitation What? What career are they in? ::disbelieving:: If they'd said "without realizing you were talking to a disabled person'" I'd believe them.
@chiasm @kitation This is a talk to a web developer audience about web accessibility.
@chicgeek @kitation I gathered that, to be honest; but the idea they'd never meet a disabled person is unbelievable. Not all disabilities are visually apparent, but they are rampant.
@chicgeek @kitation ... I hope this slide was prefaced with "This is a myth", or "things people get wrong", because this statement is false.

@homer @kitation

I've edited this to add additional messaging from the talk. I hope the context is clearer for you now.

@chicgeek @kitation ... ah! thanks for the context
