As to the question about what made it so German? The apparent seriousness of the tone. The setting of a man having a discussion with himself. Despite not getting most of the context it was very apparent this was a philosophical monologue. It's performance art of a kind that's very unique to what would be expected from German culture. It's hard to really pin down what exactly makes this so, but I can say with confidence that even if I had not recognized what language he was speaking I would have guessed the origin region to be Eastern Europe.
