Zohran Mamdani had +38 approval upon his election. In under 2 months he’s:
•Secured universal childcare
•Paid New Yorkers $30/hour & survived a blizzard without disruption
•Remained wholly honest about the massive budget crisis NYC faces
•Demanded Hochul tax billionaires instead of working people
•Got Trump to commit $12B to NYC for affordable housing, and
•Did it ALL without corporate money

His approval is now +48.

Almost like working people love public servants who fight for working people.🤯

@QasimRashid this is the real "popularism."

@QasimRashid
But, but, but-
Someone has noticed that New York City sidewalks are less than pristine! How could Mamdani possibly be a good mayor if that is true??

/sarcasm/

@QasimRashid people actually prefer a pedophile, racist, politician (?), criminal who steals their money, and destroys their lives because non-white people don't deserve anything. Don't you get it?
@idahobucks
that attitude is a one way ticket to nowhere good.
@QasimRashid Am I reading right he has an approval rating of 98%?!
@disorderlyf No, the + just indicates the approval rating is positive, doesn’t it?
@polarweasel by 48 points, which I don't think is possible without 98% approval unless a large amount of undecided votes were cast

@disorderlyf It appears that it just means 48% of voters approve of the job he’s doing (and at that time 32% disapproved)

Zohran Mamdani’s Popularity Hits New High—Poll

The statewide finding marks a new peak for Mamdani’s standing since he emerged as a leading figure in city politics.

Newsweek
@polarweasel Why do I get the impression approval ratings in America are broken?
@disorderlyf Bahahahaha now that’s a completely separate question 🤣
@polarweasel @disorderlyf ah weird i really thought +48 was (approval - disaproval), but it seems to just be really only about half of the people approving, 32% disaproving, and a lot of people in the middle (i'm constantly surprised by how many people have no opinion).

If approval is 48% and disapproval is 32%, you can say his approval rate is 48%. Or you can calculate the difference and say it's +16. So @[email protected] is wrong.

For it to be +48, you would need something like 74 vs 26. (If there were no don't knows).

Yes, there's something broken.
@disorderlyf
@polarweasel

@QasimRashid

how did we get #mamdani?

centrist #democrats anointed #cuomo as next mayor

did people whine like losers and give up?

no, they VOTED in the #primaries, and chose mamdani

but in the general #election, there's cuomo again

did people go "it's not faiiir waah"?

no, they VOTED and chose mamdani

meaning what?

STOP FUCKING WHINING AND #VOTE, ASSHOLES

the dems suck

but it doesn't matter!

there are primaries coming up in a few weeks

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO

let's get 50 mamdanis

@benroyce @QasimRashid

Also, you can make the Dems suck less through primaries.

@mcv @QasimRashid

exactly

if you show up every single time

in the primaries

in the general

you shape the dem establishment

then there is no enemy dem establishment, they reflect the will of the people

but if we do NOT show up, we only get a subsection of voters who are centrist assholes

so the dem establishment becomes centrist assholes

not voting is not the effect of bad candidates

not voting is the cause of bad candidates

@benroyce
Remember the question I've asked you and it's left dangling, about what is the difference between the Democrat establishment and Mamdani, and how it can make people stop not voting.

Those things listed by @QasimRashid are the consequences of the answer: honestly addressing people's needs and wants.

Not comparing non-voters to MAGA.

@dzwiedziu @QasimRashid

you're conflating 2 different points

if you don't get your good candidate in the primary, still pick the piece of shit centrist dem in the general election

anyone who says "harris, trump, no difference, i'm not voting" is a loser and a moron

we need to show the fuck up, all the time, every time, then *iterate*

not voting until perfect is handed to us is idiotic

you only get good candidates if you show up in the primaries

so nonvoters are indeed helping MAGA

@dzwiedziu @QasimRashid

and "honestly addressing people's needs and wants" misses my point

you are saying if the dem establishment gives people what they want they will vote therefore not voting is the dem establishment's fault

but the dem establishment gave us cuomo

so did people not vote?

no

they chose mamdani

in the primaries

then in the general election

truth:

bad candidates do not cause not voting

not voting causes bad candidates

nonvoters are to blame. they are the root problem

@QasimRashid And did not appear in the Epstein Files even once! Amazing.

@qurlyjoe
You can get a mention in the PedoFiles for being a thorn in a misoginist side.

So I'm in the Epstein Files

@QasimRashid He is a beacon of light of hope for common people.
Zohran Mamdani Kept Columbia Student in New York — Then Phoned With Trump to Secure Her Release

“They pretended to be NYPD officers in search of missing persons,” a city council member said of ICE. “They used straight-up lies.”

The Intercept
@QasimRashid Wow that’s pretty phenomenal, others should take notes.

@QasimRashid

It's amazing how the world doesn't stop turning because publicly elected officials in NY actually work for the public

The UK should take note... Labour would have won the recent by election if the Labour Government had done what the public want and acted for the people in the UK and not for the benefit of foreign Governments... and the ultra wealthy.... plus not to try and pander to the right and out reform.. reform

@QasimRashid Especially after years of politicians not doing anything they say, to actually help their citizens.
You'd think Mamdami is from another country. 😉

On a side note, even Israel has universal health care, you'd think that the rest of the US wouldn't follow in Mamdami's footsteps.

@QasimRashid hard not to appreciate a public servant who is a public servant.

@QasimRashid

"Survived a Blizzard Without Disruption". Umm... 20 homeless people froze to death... and it was totally preventable.... It is what it is, but I just had to point that out since I've been seeing so much outrage over 1 person freezing to death because of poor conmmunication and ICE being involved.

The double standards are crazy af. And I get that the double standard delusion goes both ways depending on who you're talking too. I just couldn't let that go without saying something. I hope the Mamdani thing works out,

@ElegantSimplicity @QasimRashid

The ICE situation is far worse. They had a blind man in custody, and released him in the middle of nowhere instead of to his home. If you take someone into custody, you take responsibility over their safety, and ICE is fully responsible for their death.

Homeless people freezing to death is tragic of course, and cities should be taking more responsibility for their homeless populations, but it's less of a direct responsibility, and they have no direct control over the whereabouts of homeless people.

It's good to address it, but it's not the same thing.

@QasimRashid no you don't understand. You have to move to the right to win elections. You have to throw more trans people and immigrants under the bus
@Lebramor @QasimRashid of course not. The buses we through the trans people under are are means-tested so folx don't get dependant on welfare
@QasimRashid some MAGA people may embrace Mamdani faster than some corporate dems.
@QasimRashid It’s like Sadiq Khan. Londoners love him. Every negative opinion seems to come from outside London.

@TheWolfOfSouthEnd @QasimRashid

We can't have Brown men making a success of running things they are in charge of when the most powerful white men are making an arse of it elsewhere.
