It's Sixx's birthday tomorrow! 🥳

Do any of your OCs also have specific birthdays? Do you base them off of when they were created, or according to something totally different? I'd love to hear about them if you'd like to share. 😊

@RxD_RxT I used to make their bdays the exact date of their creation. But looking for more symbolic ways to build up the character even through birth date would be so fun..kinda like going by astrology

What about you?

@evifneves Yessss same here! I used to go with the date of creation, but now I find it much more rewarding to instead work with astrological, numerical, and thematic references. Whatever feels right to me for the character.

@RxD_RxT yes!!! I love celebrating their birthdays, ooooh I'm happy youre into that too.

Tom is my only OC with a birthday based around his source material to pay homage. Kat doesnt have an official birthday, but I celebrate Feb 14 as "Kat day". Rat shares my birthday as he's kind of a bosom character to me.

@Pajamajapes Hah! I would've thought Tom's birthday was astrology based since he suits his sign so well! And Valentines Day being Kat themed is so sweet. 🥰 I don't know much about Rat but I *love* his design. 💜 Such an enthusiastic fellow in the right situations. 😊

I almost made Sixx's birthday February 29th because it's a leap-year date and she's my only OC who never ages, (she is my inner child, afterall) but since she shares many of my preferences and coping tendencies I thought an even number felt more fitting.

@RxD_RxT Yes, many! OCs that are extremely meaningful to me (Elysium, Ferret, Grin, etc.) have their creation dates as their birthdays, the first time they appeared in my art, writing, or a game. By that, I've let fate take the wheel in regards to their astrological signs, and so far they feel pretty accurate.

@Scorpio Aw that sounds so satisfying! 💕 I love it when things just seem to line up "as they were meant to be". 😊 Helps me feel grounded in something, a flow of sorts; even if that thing I'm grounded in is chaotic.

Do you find that your OCs sorta develop in their own unique unexpected directions as you work on them over time too?

@RxD_RxT They do, yeah! They tend to take on a life of their own once they're out in the world, as new ideas come to me, though it feels more like the characters themselves are making those choices haha

@RxD_RxT Me realizing that, while I give birthdays to all my OCs, I...forgot to give them to the ones I've worked on for the past few years LMAO. Although the daughter of one has a bday on Valentine's just because it matches her caring, friendly and very open nature. (Valentine's in Puerto Rico is "Día de la Amistad," translated as Friendship Day, and it's more of a day for everyone, not just lovers.)

I usually either pick a random date that feels like a good match or I try to pick a zodiac sign, then get the date from there. I never keep good track of when I created my children (except for the actual year) so...oops

Despite all of this, I always have so much on my mind, that I never remember to celebrate any of their birthdays

@vsitante Aw, that's oki! I rarely celebrate my OCs' birthdays too. Sixx is just an OC that's been particularly healing and therapeutic for me in the last few years, so I've been drawing her a ton. 😊

Also I think I prefer the Puerto Rican version! Sounds more inclusive and flexible in its interpretations. 🙂
