The E.U.’s Burgeoning Repair Movement Is Set to Get a Boost.

Europe’s new Right to Repair Directive will make it easier — and cheaper — for consumers to get their household goods fixed, rather than buy something new. Part of the E.U.’s Green Deal, the plan is expected to slash waste, promote recycling, and cut greenhouse gas emissions. #ClimateChange

Ahhhh that makes me happy. 🛠️

Let's wait and see how this works out in practice.

@aerofreak Here in France, where some parts of the Directive are already implemented, they seem to work, at least in my region.

When it comes to electronic devices, for example, reuse has been a familiar concept for years, even in large supermarkets.
It was mainly large corporations such as Apple that resisted making their devices more accessible. But now that the law has come into force, they can finally be sued.

@NatureMC

Yes, I was thinking about the big players who always tried to find ways of circumvention. For example Apple with their extremely expensive special tools you were required to use in order to replace a battery etc.
The question is will they really be sued? Let's think positive. 😊

@climatenewsnow

@aerofreak I'm sure, they will. Since we have the DSA, e.g., the EU is regularly sueing big tech who violate the regulations.
That's why a certain president is whining so loudly.

He's testing an A-Team van and that's just the weirdest thing I'd never expect to see in a story about Europeans and them fixing things. 😄

I love it when a repair plan comes together.
