One for fellow spoolers: WalkmanLand is a database of all 80s/90s portable cassette players (found via @simplebits' fine newsletter). My WM-22 still outperforms any modern alternatives and it's lovely to get this much detail. https://walkman.land/sony/wm-22
Sony WM-22 ▶ Walkman.land

The WM-22 was the first Walkman model that was sold in the UK for under £30.

Last DD unit to be released, closing the cost-reduced DD1-DD10-DD11 line.

@matthiasott @colly @simplebits the last Walkman I had https://walkman.land/sony/wm-ex552 < it was nothing but a joy. #mixtapes
Sony WM-EX552 ▶ Walkman.land

A modern, thin, single AA powered model. It is the US version of the WM-EX550.

@colly @simplebits You’ve seen this over video, but mine is on there. Kinda wish I had a more boxy one now, but the slim ones are great in the hand.

Sony WM-EX512 ▶ Walkman.land

A modified version of the WM-EX612, or a WM-EX510 with remote control, sold in Japan for tourists. It comes with a dual-voltage battery charger for international use, and a Sony alkaline and a Ni-Cd rechargeable battery.

@nazhamid @colly @simplebits @matthiasott slim in the hand is great. That site is a gem.
Here’s mine: https://walkman.land/sony/wm-ex655
@Luke @colly @simplebits @matthiasott Woah, I love that diamond pattern! Amazing.
@nazhamid @colly @simplebits @matthiasott It feels really good, too. Love the soft touch button interfaces.
Now I need to go find that Sony Design book… 🤑
@nazhamid @Luke @colly @simplebits @matthiasott I had this one back in the day. I remember it so vividly because it was the first player I had that wasn't a busted hand-me-down. The latch made such a big thunk when it closed, and I would fidget with these huge buttons endlessly while listening: https://walkman.land/sony/wm-af59

No frills Sports Walkman.

@jasonsantamaria @Luke @colly @simplebits @matthiasott We had one in the house at one point — I can't remember if it was my sister's or mine, or just the family's Walkman. Like you, I loved the tactility of it. My sole Walkman now is a bit borked —  the latch is finicky and I lost one of the micro-screws so the door is fragile. I feel like a Sports model would have held up better over the decades, as intended.
