The @torproject VPN app for Android is now available in @fdroidorg and therefore guaranteed to be fully Free Software, rebuilt from source.
@grote @torproject @fdroidorg wow! what's the difference to orbot? or is it like a rebrand?
Orbot is by the guardian project, not the tor project as far as I know. (Tho endorsed by the tor project)
And I think individual circuits for apps is new in the vpn app
@shadowwwind that's what shocked me the most with the beta version, I never thought how many volunteers would setup tor relays that they can afford each application having it's own independent circuit.
@grote now I just have to figure out how I make this work together with personalDNSfilter @torproject @fdroidorg
@grote @torproject @fdroidorg is this an official app published by the Tor Project? The logo isn’t one I recognize and immediately makes me suspicious
@dan Yes, maybe @torproject can confirm, but AFAIK this is official. Source repo in official Gitlab instance: https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/applications/vpn

Thank you for the heads-up

Beta Testing it now

Nice. Is there a specific reason NOT to use the onion logo? At first I thought this was a a fake/knockoff app.
@grote @torproject @fdroidorg what's the difference between this Tor VPN and Orbot?
