I am more pleased about the Greens winning this by-election than I am upset at #Labour for splitting the #Green vote in this election.

The effect this will have on Starmer will crack the Murdochian omerta that the press have against ever treating the Green Party of England and Wales as anything worth covering. It won't be glowing coverage, but they'll have to accept that the party actually exists, finally.

I kind of sighed when I saw the early stories about this election being all about Andy Burnham. #Burnham seems a capable sort with a good set of priorities as mayor. Here in London we're all tempted to think of him as The #Sadiq of the North, although I'm sure that's too simplistic to be fair to either mayor. But #Labour talking heads crowing "Andy would've won it!" seems to be the coping strategy now, and the unions are coming after Starmer with some "stop being so bloody right-wing" statements.

I'm sure this coverage will all fold over itself soon and begin rotting in new and exciting ways, but today feels like a hopeful day here.
