Please see the Supplemental Information section below for details! About this Unit: The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) exists to safeguard the health and well-being for low income, financially eligible households by providing food assistance benefits redeemable for food items at authorized retailers. The program operates on a statewide basis in all counties providing certification (eligibility determination based on State/Federal rules and guidelines) and authorizing issuance of benefits to approximately 330,000households monthly. The unit must provide for the establishment and implementation of SNAP laws, rules, and policies at the state and local levels to ensure applicants receive timely and accurate benefits.  This section is responsible for federal policy interpretation and implementation, creation of statewide rules and policies, monitoring program performance, statewide training, issuance accountability, and establishing fraud controls, employment and training program referral and coordination, building systems for continuous program improvement, and collection of benefit overpayments. This position exists to direct, monitor, and evaluate program expenditures and contract requirements necessary to utilize federal funding. Evaluation and monitoring includes operations at the State and county levels.
