#Boston #cycling and #mobility folks, this coming Tuesday (3 March) there is a public hearing at 2 PM to discuss "snow removal relief, the creation of a snow corps, and the purchasing of snow melters."

Virtual attendance is available as an option

The City failed to respond appropriately to the previous storm and it is unclear if they were adequately prepared to respond to this one. If you have any feelings about that, it'd mean a lot for your community if you showed up to that hearing.

This hearing seems to be a pretty direct response to the public statements of deaf-blind disability advocate Casandra Xavier about the casual horror of navigating #Boston after a storm:

Imagine what it is like to have any kind of mobility problems in Boston after a snow storm, especially with such a lackluster response by the City! Everybody has the right to get around on public ways.

They are doing better this time around, but I think they were still underprepared for the storm, and they should be made to answer for that failure of the general public.

‘Body at risk’: Boston snow leaves disabled residents stuck on sidewalks weeks after storm

Two weeks after Boston’s largest storm in years, streets are clear but walkways left blocked. Residents with disabilities say this is “always an obstacle” and their freedom is still buried.

@SnoopJ I am not a Boston resident, nor do I work in Boston, and I usually avoid Boston precisely because their biking infrastructure is so random (I need to deliver a package to my child near Longwood, and there is a piece of the route that makes no fucking sense even when things are clear).

HOWEVER. I do have experience with a trailer and hauling a snowblower on that trailer and have used it to clear snow from infrastructure (local bike/ped bridge). Sadly, snowblower is in the shop.

@SnoopJ I was out of hemisphere at the previous snow removal event, helping with a relative's recovery from a medical emergency.
@dr2chase thank you for your service to the community 🫡
@SnoopJ
holding a "public hearing" Tuesday at 2p seems about right for a city that has a hard time listening to people who might be busy at that time of day
