#Gospel Reading: John 3:1-17

#Jesus spoke with #Nicodemus

Nicodemus was a Pharisee and came to Jesus at night, confessing Him as a teacher from God.

Jesus told him that unless a person is born again and/or from above, he cannot see God's reign.

Nicodemus was confused, wondering if a person could re-enter the womb when old and be born.

Jesus responded that one must be born of water and the Spirit, having received baptism, to enter God's reign.

Jesus contrasted that which is born of flesh and the Spirit; thus Nicodemus should not be so surprised.

The wind blows as it will, and so it goes with those born of the Spirit.

Nicodemus wondered how this could be.

Jesus asked if he was a teacher in Israel yet did not understand these things.

Jesus recognized people speak of what they know and witness, yet the Pharisees did not receive Jesus' witness.  How could they believe Him about heavenly things when they did not believe Him about earthly things?

Only the one who descended from heaven can ascend to heaven: the Son of Man.  As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, thus the Son of Man would be lifted up so all who believed in Him might have eternal life.

God loved the world so much He gave His only begotten Son so those who believe on Him should not perish but have eternal life.

God did not send the Son to judge the world but that it might be saved through Him.

How can we be #born again from above and have #eternal life?
