"Hey little one. You seem to be upset." Kira approached her younger me carefully, slowly, trying to be gentle.

"Hello," her child self looked sad & exhausted as it spoke, wearing her left arm in a protective casing; "my name is Kira."

"Oh curious my name is Kira too,"
Instinctively she started rubbing her left shoulder the memories as fresh as if it just happened, not knowing if this happened in her childhood too.
She pointed at the kids protective arm case: "Does it hurt much?"
She knew the answer but it felt silly not to ask.

The child looked at her, blinking: "I don't know, they gave me medicine to not feel it."

Kira sat down on the bed next to her child me, remembering the strange woman that visited her one➡️

Her former self nodded with wide eyes as the weird woman stood up smiling at her & left the room.

Kira remembered the words the strange lady said to her, she remembered the times she wanted to visit this woman only to hear that she must have had imagined her.

If your MC or SC found out they only had twenty-four hours left to live, what would they do?

That depends highly on the circumstances. Are they alone? Why is there a timer running?
Deadly disease? Hope the doc does the best. Failing life support systems, and part of the maintenance staff? Work their ashes of. Not part of the maintenance crew, go into the Hyberpod to preserve Oxygen.
Part of the command crew. Highest up stays awake rest goes Hyberpod too.

Planet explodes and no space vessels to evacuate with? Enjoy your last hours and party hard or sleep and hopefully dream something nice.

On the battlefield? Give them hell!

Which of your characters would watch films (and marathon them) together? What type of films?

Movies are still a thing in the 24. Century but they changed drastically, at least for the 2/3 of the Union population that uses a NIN Implant.

First of the language of the movie can be translated directly. Scenes can be altered to your liking so that as an example characters match your preferred species or skin tone. In some cases this doesn't make sense for the story but it's possible.
Also you can get direct information of how something was done or context information. Many old movies have been refurbished into NIN media, with added emotional tracks or thoughts added of persons. Basically you can link into any character in a scene & expirience theirs.

Kira would most likely bore the people with her favorite retro SciFi works, especially Star Trek because most people remember the episodes from the academy as a primer ➡️

911 2/2 for empathy schooling, rights of individuals etc, as such they have a boring reputation amongst many.

Arkham would join Kira for it because, despite finding it boring tbh, she wants to understand what Kira finds at them.

Vice versa Kira would join Arkham in her NIN Dramas despite finding the overloaded.

William Troika, his wife and his 3 daughters used to watch a lot together, but since his oldest is to go about joining the A.P.E. program to become a soldier herself she missed some evenings.

J. organized all kind of entertainment before even Karaoke contests. So she would totally join a movie night but only if she can link out of the NIN addition, her stance is that they make the stories different and she wants 'the Real stuff'.

Genre wise most people find retro SciFi very amusing. Action movies are quite common too because they are so silly.

Talisa & Dr Kaidan.would also join.
Rose & Jenkins probably not.

Kira Knox, she/her, athletic build still readable as female on distance. Bright red natural hair but lighter blood red dyed, asymmetrical cut bob with longer parts on the left side.
Heterochromatic eyes, right side brown with a deep blue circle around the Iris, left side deep purple. Has a scar from her left forehead over the left eye to her left cheek.
Looks around 25-30, actually 35 (people life longer and look overall younger for longer periods).
Skin tone what ever the reader imagines but with a 'taint' of slight grey which gives her a slight paler sickly look (Long term space results) giant rose tattoo between her shoulders carrying the names of the fallen in her life with their date of death. Thorn tendrils going from the tattoo over to her left leg/foot and her right arm/wrist.
Elite soldier but usually very soft and gentle. ➡️

How could someone locate your MC in a crowd?

Hadn't we the same question a month or two ago in another prompt? Or was it Antagonist? If I would remember I would link it here.
Because I'm sure it's pretty much the same with technical help.
So pinging their Holo or join call them via Holo or NIN connection. Triangulating the exact geo location.

Otherwise look for a 178 cm large woman of yesterdays description in case of Kira.

Arkham? No change other than triangulating and finding her outside, she is 157 cm, this people have the hardest time in crowds.

Ashlei... Well if you don't spot Ashlei in a crowd of people you are looking for the wrong thing or maybe visually impaired. It's the giant black, red, blue & green, 178 meters long and around 8 story tall Ghoz'Tarc.
Seriously we talking around 2/3 of the Eiffeltower (If I remember correctly). Okay maybe she disguised herself as some sort of building.

Does your antagonist have any redeeming qualities?

Ayanami: hard to say, nobody knows enough about Ayanami. They (in lack of a better term) seem to be well mannered and somehow able to mobilize great forces in short time, but what qualities has a puppeteer according to the puppet? They fight against the Eltaryn and the whole organizations treats their soldiers well.

Ariæne: well they is loyal and if they can remember they stands to their word. Ariæne is the number one of Ayanami. They has to be effective and successful.

In your SC's opinion, what would be the worst way to die?

Every way to die is horrible. Because we fear death, we don't imagine to end, but death is the ultimate end.
We only put tags on it to deal with it. Because we can't handle uncertain things well, so we need to attribute something like a value or a reason to something. Making it framable to sort it into our moral system and help us to deal with something like death.

For my characters I think it would be pretty easy a death that could have been prevented.
Most armed forces in the Union have a great deal of empathy for the Eltaryn. They see the Terror they bring and have pitty for their wasted life's. But this empathy doesn't stop them from defending the victims of the Eltaryn. It just makes them people instead of killing machines.

How would your MC react to being mocked or made fun of?

Depending on the tone, who mocks them for what reason and what's subject. Oh and of course which MC.
It's almost never happens in the future

Kira: First ignore it. Order it to stop. If insisting cut them short as early as possible, with words or show of force, if the later is necessary. Do not mess with a person that has pinpoint accuracy, she could flip a peanut into your eye.

Arkham: verbal destruction of the opponent if they don't stop shortly after beginning with it. She prefers the scorched earth method for stuff like this.

Ash: research the mocking person and save up infuriating material, keep calm and friendly, drop devastating information if the person insists on being a dick.
If this doesn't work inform them of a scanner malfunction and that the Ghoz'Tarc's weapon aiming system relies on audio tracking.

Well since Werewolf's like Wowolfs or Wywolfs (bad German language joke about Werwölfe) Close the eyes and disconnect from the NIN. You could do it without closing your eyes but some people might find the visual translation of a black screen for the mind more helpful, funny thing despite a visual nerve usually don't stop working (you just see darkness if you close your eyes) it should still transfer data as flashing lights if you close your eyes inside a NIN session but brains are so used to closing eyes and not seeing anything that the brain blocks the signals if you imagine closing your eyes in the NIN.

Have any of your characters ever broken a bone? More than one? If so, how did it happen?

A bone? No several on multiple occasions. Yep. They are soldiers after all and all have seen plenty of field missions. Other wounds included being shot with alien projectiles, parasites, acids, etc. For more details I would need to get past the doctor but that already didn't work so well once before this month.

How would your antagonist react to being mocked or made fun of?

Ayanami: since they only appear via message, audio call or similar one mocking them will most likely result in silence before revealing some dirt about the mocking person to the people of the mocking one. Maybe release some secrets directly into a sort of PSA or inform them that several component toxins are quite available & reach is not necessary a visible thing, if the mocking person is done being a primitive idiot, they would be allowed to participate in a conversation again. If the person isn't done yet Ayanami would ask if they had interest in electro shocks for behavioral corrections? And then shortcutting any worn device or device nearby.

Ariæne: wouldn't even flinch an eye, they has the ability to ignore a LOT.
If they answer it would be something like: "I'm sure you trained your whole life for this moment."

MC POV: When faced with a problem, do you tackle it head on or procrastinate until it needs immediate attention?

Kira: Don't push to tomorrow what you can handle today. I prefer stuff dealt immediately.

Arkham: Everything in its time. I do stuff immediately because, I'm after all, a pilot so immediate reactions are necessary, most of the times.

Ashlei: I handle all tasks in real times and process them as fast as possible. Of course I have to delegate actions to the according people since other than my repair drones i have no capacity of dealing with physical stuff if it isn't outside the ship.

How does your MC feel about their childhood home?

Kira: it was a loving home, both biological parents (father and mother, both female) head stable part time jobs as development planers & engineers. They traveled through the saver parts of the Union, with her and her two sisters (one older, one younger). It all changed with the catastrophic event on Friendship station which only left her.
Her second family Anika, her mother the Icequeen wasn't much around as the foreign affairs minister of terra, her father was an instructor on the alliance. He worked hard to handle family and job. Both Kira and Anika where often with him, for the Cadets/other instructors they were a bit of "lucky charms."
Both suffered a lot as he died on a work related travel as he defended civilians against an Eltaryn attack force. The mother took time off but never had 'the right skills' to handle two daughters. This is why both ➡️

Arkham: Had a loving Father and a helicopter dragon mother. He always softened the blows for her and took great care that his little Star wouldn't suffer to much under the mother's draconic behavior. As he died in an Eltaryn attack Arkham's world changed dramatically, as the mother then decided to move closer to the Unions rim to avoid the Union Childcare & Social services it got only worse. With 15 she ran away and lived on the streets, something to unheard of in the core territory of the Union.

Ashlei: as an AI especially designed to support Terrans, in a combat situation and care for them long term on Alliance vessels, Ashlei had a very different 'childhood.' She is in Terran years only 6 y.o. for an A.I. this is quite a long time.

Stuff I think all the time about it and so do my characters. And I think I am not alone with this.

Makes up most thoughts in your mind too I bet.
But why?
Because stuff is important.
Stuff gets hot.
Stuff can relaxe.
Stuff is the number one category to sort things into you don't have the mental capacity to handle right now.
Just call it stuff for later.
Boom stuff is gone, we got stuff done.
It's even better in German if we translate stuff to Zeug.
It flies we don't have a name, how about Flugzeug - flying stuff.
It drives? Fahrzeug - driving stuff.

Wanna ride your horse get the Zaumzeug.
(I have no idea what's that called in English and will not spend the amount of energy equivalent to cooking a mug of tea for a search engine...)

Tell us about something a character of yours feels confident about.

I'll let Kira talk for herself.

Kira: "My role, death & change. Everyone meets their end someday. I will not live forever as cursed as I seem to be in surviving others. I make every year count to prevent unnecessary deaths.
Science & medicine extended our lives to a 150 years, if I remember right the oldest Terran died 2 years ago with 168 to natural causes, still without the changes we made around the Eltaryn attack, we would die as children, on a toxic wasteland left by 'humans'*. Instead now, we are a central part of the Union. 72 Worlds defending others against the Eltaryn & improving the lives of a gogol amount of people. I know that we can't save everyone but I try & I will succeed in saving as many as possible, because we can change stuff to the better."

*the distain in Kira's voice is quite notable even without high empathy levels.

Would your characters enjoy camping? Why or why not?

Kira: in combination with something else, a festival, climbing or hiking absolutely, she is a bit hesitant about festivals thanks to her ex Tanya and what followed, especially avoiding any desert based festivals.

Arkham: NOPE reminds her to much to her time on the streets.

Ashlei: technically she is sort of a camper, quite literally, ~40 people life inside her and what else is a spaceship than sort of an camping van in space. But I doubt you find a 200 meters 9 stories high tent for a space ship to sleep in. So this might disqualifying her as 'a true camper' in 'the person' sense.

Do your characters play any sports, or did they play any in the past?

Play? None, fitness in the military is mandatory this making training a necessity. The people have options for what they do for fitness. And even the Cargobay of the Ghoz'Tarc is a great place to train, it's even build with that purpose in mind with different functions and the ability to secure containers in mud air thanks to gravity manipulation.

Kira is on the "harder" side. Martial arts, climbing, running are basic training for her and she train's daily. Not all the time the same stuff but daily.

Arkham to her horror realizes that she actually enjoys dancing especially Breakdance and some other more body taxing variants.

J.'s muscles aren't created out of thin air, she works out hard for them.

Even our slightly chubby C.E. Charlston Trawella joggs and does gymnastics. It's kinda self-explanatory if you crouch inside the ships tighter parts.

Personal pride isn't real a thing in the 23 hundreds. It's one of the things that are seen as the unwanted human emotions.

Most people are thankful for their place or their opportunities they have, their oath they are walking.
Kira is like this.
Arkham has a bit more of a proud strike in her.

Ash is simply not programmed to be proud.

What is your MC’s country or place of origin, and where do they currently live?
Get ready it's messy

Kira: Terran, spacer, space born, colonist, colony [redacted], Alliance Fleet spacer, fleet [redacted], colonial residency.

Arkham: Terran, Terra born, colonist, colony [redacted], Alliance fleet spacer, fleet [redacted], Terran residency.

This are a lot of drawers that create a whole wardrobe of personal categories per person and the main reason is to make clear which part of the government has to pay at which point, usually citizens don't notice anything about all the beurocracy in the background, but ist marked in their ID's with more fancy numbers.

Tinkers a lot with machinery in her free time.

Owns an old restaurant on Terra do to weird circumstances.

Ashlei:
Considers herself above other A.I.s for the simple reason she shares the memories of a Terran person.

Tell us about something that disgusts your MC.

That is more generally than my MCs, the Union is build on trust, open communication, cooperation, compassion, equality & responsibility. If someone went to jail they still can become a high ranking military or politician as long they show growth, responsibility & as long they didn't went to jail for something as a politician or military person. Lack of this virtues crosses a lot of people and the society as a whole the wrong way & punishment will follow.

This is why Bethosians have a hard time with the Union, they where the last core world that joined & they have a matriarchal society in which males are a rare occurrence (birth rate 999:1). Which leads to them being locked away on the home world in a golden cage.
If Bethosians would just allow studies, solution like Terrans & Talithi have them, non gender dependent pregnancies, would surely be possible in some years.

Which of your characters is the most controversial? Why?

The time will tell but I'm sure different people will get different characters different than what I intended or feel attacked by some choices I made, if not in honesty than at least to piss their "I have an opinion everyone needs to follow" mindset around like a fire hose that got released from its fire fighter.

The Internet is full of such people and it's only an time pass = 100% graphic until you meet someone like this online riding their small dick energy like a fire hose dragon.

If I come across as rough today it's because I am.
I coughed the whole night and my filters aren't working, right now. I already yelled at my doorframe because I ran into it and bumped my head against it ...

I guess from all my characters the pretty much canned Fallout 76 medic/mother/cannibal Candy would be seen as controversial.

The story is about an old human couple from the time Terra Unika rose to power & tells us about the fears, the emotional track is devastatingly bitter sweet."

How would your MC respond if they were falsely accused of a crime?

This is highly dependent on the situation.

Kira in her free time: Look for the seriousness of the accusations, if the Union police is already involved she would have to obey. She might be able to take control over fleets & personal but the Police is a civilian to law protection & enforcement part. There Job would be taking her in & she would not fight against it.
On mission the same scenario could play out completely different. If the mission is in danger she would finish the mission first even if this would create problems later. If she is taking control over military asset's via her SHADE Status only other SHADEs can remove her forcefully as long she stands in that position. Usually this only lasts til a certain military action is wrapped up & she would have to stand down immediately & hand herself over to the law enforcement for investigation. ➡️

Arkham in her freetime: well basically the same as Kira but with more "vocal range."
On mission her commanding officer could put her off & order to hand in with the law enforcement.

Ashlei: now it gets juicy. AI's aren't person's only persons can commit crimes, but AI's are considered property of entities like the alliance.
It would come to the following scenario, confiscated said property. Disconnect AI from its main frame & limit its compute heavily slowing it down, should this interfere with military actions the military actions have priority, stand down til the action is solved successfully according to the leading military officer. Send AI into storage, inform AI expert & AI owner, wait for both to arrive.

Law enforcement has to make sure that the accusations are valid enough before acting on them, everything else is considered an action in bad faith & will be investigated.

Do you regret anything about the creation of your WIP?

Well a clear YO (YES and NO based on the German concept of jain - ja and nein).
Yes not writing daily on it or at least weekly and only writing when I feel like it. This makes it an incredible slow process because I haven't written much since November.
Otherwise no not really.
