"Grand Galaxy Hotel "
2026, Episodes unknown .

Forecasted around the same time as "Can This Love Be Translated?"
Three years ago.
I still have the idea that "Translated" was more an in-between, as good as it is.
Anyway, new life coming to the HS-corner of Kdramaland soon :

"Grand Galaxy Hotel is a memorial hotel to console dead souls and the hotel is known for its world-class service."

Reminding of " Hotel Del Luna " ?
We 'll see !

@hanktank61 Jaaaa, "Hotel del Luna" all over again. ๐Ÿ˜… Maar ik ga wel kijken, mocht "Grand Galaxy Hotel" op Netflix komen want HDL was voor mij wel een favoriet. ๐Ÿ’œ

@HeyLaiverd @ElpasYou_2

@hanktank61
Sounds a lot like Hotel Del Luna, likely without IU. I wasn't a big fan of that one.
@EllenInEdmonton I am not always really a fan of mentioned actress ' acting.
But admiring her for being able to have 100% control of her life in Korea' s showbizz.
In " When life gives you tangerines " she was really good !
" Hotel Del Luna " and "Goblin" are the two HS-dramas I liked to watch once, not for rewatch.
@hanktank61 IU was also amazing in My Mister!! Perhaps she does better at gritty. In HDL, she was mainly treated like a Barbie doll, made to wear a bunch of wild fashions and look amazing. The direction meant that her acting was quite one-dimensional.
I'll watch Goblin again at some point for the fabulous bromance, the fashion, the fantasy, and the sets. I disliked the "romance" in that one.
#kdrama
@EllenInEdmonton @hanktank61 The best Iโ€™ve seen from her was in Scarlet Heart Ryeo
@bougiewonderland @hanktank61
I would very much love to see Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo. Sadly, it continues to be "not available in your region", and I've requested it many times. Several actors I enjoy are in that one.
@EllenInEdmonton @bougiewonderland @hanktank61 She was not in Goblin! And Moon Lovers was rather old fashioned if you ask me, did not finish. But I'm not such a fan of historical #kdrama
@EllenInEdmonton @bougiewonderland @hanktank61 as in the clearly not even trying to be historically accurate historical, I love it when set in the 20th century
@mel @EllenInEdmonton @bougiewonderland
I mentioned Goblin as a Hong Sisters- drama, in a post with IU, but not in connection with her.
Fantasy, legends, old folklore themes. I like that very much when used in modern settings. Demons , dragons, Yokais etc are all Timeless as we know by now.
@mel @EllenInEdmonton @hanktank61 so inaccurate that at some point I thought theyโ€™d messed up by calling two bothers the same thingโ€”but no! King Taejo canonically gave two of his sons the same name! WTF!
@bougiewonderland @EllenInEdmonton @hanktank61 No idea about this specific situation, but in European history it was not uncommon to give succesive children the same name, bc chances were slim they would survive the first (few) years and in certain families it was important to have the same first name in every generation. Could have been that nr 1 was ill when nr 2 arrived, bit then nr 1 recovered again? Just thinking out loud here
@mel @bougiewonderland @EllenInEdmonton
True. My own family name goes back many centuries.
Same names in several branches, widespread.
So much widespread, there will not be trickling down of any wealth from the top.
On Mom's side even more interesting, same story.
We are safe in our rabbit-holes down at the bottom ๐Ÿ™‚

@mel @EllenInEdmonton @hanktank61 There is the one case on my family! I was looking up church records and couldnโ€™t figure out why dates made no sense for that one kid. Turns out they had a baby, named him Jean-Baptiste, then he died, had another, named *him* Jean-Baptiste, then he died, had another and named him Jean-Baptiste too! This one survived, luckily, or I wouldnโ€™t be here haha!

Loooooots of Jean-Baptistes in my family in the 19th century. So weird. But never so much as those three!

@bougiewonderland
@hanktank61
I do genealogy, and there are plenty of examples of this in various families from the bad old days. I name them Mary 1, Mary 2, and Mary 3 to keep them straight in my records.
@EllenInEdmonton @bougiewonderland @hanktank61 You see? Totally normal ๐Ÿคฃ
@mel @EllenInEdmonton @bougiewonderland
My first name was same as my granddad. My dad was named after his granddad. On and on.We named our son after his granddad at my side. We did not have to, but my wife liked the name.Funny thing is, the oldies insisted that went back into ancient times. It did not. Halfway 17th C, Portuguese Jews had to flee Portugal. They spread along the Dutch coastlines, including my birthplace. Our son' s name is still common there , from Old Testament.
@mel @EllenInEdmonton @bougiewonderland
Jewish roots : The Jews mixed with the local Christian folks along the coastline, not much real Jews there.
@hanktank61 @mel
That's because they all had to become Conversos in order to survive!
@EllenInEdmonton @mel
Fun-fact. Typical Dutch December-treat is "Oliebol". Inspiration for TH 's " Dutchy" donut. ( Liked that one , cinnamon!). It was brought up North along French, Belgian and Dutch coast lines. The most typical and busiest tourist- village in Holland is at the Lake near us.
They are also great in international showbizz , if it is your taste. ( Bieber-like). The well known families there have straight lines to Jewish Portugal 17th C
Converted to Catholicism.
@hanktank61 One of the books that educated me about Amsterdam life in its heyday was The Coffee Trader, by David Liss.
I found the ideas about how and why coffee was traded to be quite interesting.
@mel @EllenInEdmonton @hanktank61 yeah but thatโ€™s one after another, I can get that, but at the same time when you have like 15 kids? Thatโ€™s definitely someone who forgot!

@EllenInEdmonton @hanktank61 the only reason I saw it is because my BIL found it subbed in French ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ

If your level of French is up to it, we can arrange something!

ETA: if you have a VPN, Iโ€™m pretty sure itโ€™s available on Viki in Europe

@bougiewonderland @hanktank61
I think I watched an episode while I was in Korea, but I was watching Lady Ok (in Korean!!) and a couple of others while I was there and didn't continue the series. My franรงais is adequate for basic conversation. I think it would mess with my mind, hearing Korean, and reading French! But, I'd probably be able to catch the big picture, as I did with my first time watching Lady Ok. I haven't yet succumbed to the VPN temptation.
