Some #WellyWednesday #PōnekePics
My first time visiting Karori Cemetary - a serene spot in Wellington. Some nice grave-sites & memorials. Apparently dates back to 1840 and is the second largest in NZ; the resting place of 83000 people. I had no idea it existed until a few weeks ago.
I have some film shots coming but I need to finish the roll. I also realised I overexposed most shots because I forgot to set the correct film speed. Sigh. Hopefully some still come-out otherwise I'll have to make a return visit.

@irix is awesome eh, a photographers dream

I love a good graveyard

@miramarmike Same same. So much history in them + great sculpture & wabi-sabi.
@irix My father's ashes lie there under the grass ... somewhere. They were moved when the rose garden was remodelled. He was interred initially in 1981. Say hi to Henry for me next time you visit. Xx.
@irix did you know you can walk down to Otari Wilton bush through the cemetary too?
@exlibrarykris No, thanks for the tip! I'll have to review the map. I wandered in from the Firestation end and got to the part before it drops down and then circled back past the crematorium/chapel. It was after the big storm a couple of weeks back and they were clearing trees/branches and the ground was still soggy so I didn't wander too far off the track.

@irix Friends of Karori Cemetery have some really interesting stories about the place and some of the people who rest there.

@Happyfishmedia cheers! I’ll check it out.
@irix apparently they occasionally run guided tours at night
@oseiler That’d be cool. I’m a little surprised the opening hours are quite limited (not open on weekends but presumably you can still wander through) so it’s nice they do tours.
