The new Evangelion series announcement has me more excited than I thought more Evangelion would.
I'm a big fan of all of Kazuya Tsurumaki's solo directorial works like FLCL, Diebuster and GQuuuuuuX.
I haven't played Nier yet, but I've heard great things, and I think it'll be interesting to see what Yoko Taro comes up with, along with a new composer and probably character designer.
Plus the teaser looked good and the focus on instruments is a curious angle.
@emmetoneill I’ve been having hella mixed feelings about the whole thing. Rebuild 4 felt (to me) like a fantastic love letter and send off to finish the franchise on, and I’d kind of prefer to just let it rest.
That said, you bring up a good point that we could likely get something good so long as it’s in capable hands. (Which at least appears to be the case…?)
@arcticEdge I didn't love the 4th rebuild movie, and it's my least favorite of the 3 evangelion endings. 😅
I was also really hoping that Tsurumaki would make another stand-alone original work like FLCL.
But I also really like what he did with Diebuster as an original twist to Gunbuster. I think it was a very clever follow-up that was mostly original, but still meaningfully connected.
GQuuuuuuX was similar, if a bit rushed.
If he can do something like those again, I'm in!
