So I did order the 2TB SSD because it was a better deal. Still, a bit more than I had wanted to invest in this super old PC. I'll also still get a dedicated GPU for it. I'm thinking an AMD RX 580.
Anyhoo, been thinking about how I'll be using this PC and started to narrow it down on a couple of things.
It'll be a pure hobby PC. No e-mail accounts or any of that stuff on it. Will use it for DV capture, #Atari #Jaguar emulator on CRT TV (for some CD games mostly), some gaming and #homebrew tools
Homebrew tools for my #Sony #PSP and #PS2 (#PlayStation). Access to stuff like that has been long gone for me. So I like this hobby PC to be dedicated to that kind of stuff. At one point I doubt I'll even keep it connected to the internet 🙂.
But might also want to look into some #GameDev again by exploring #Godot and playing around again with #DIVGamesStudio. Heck, might even run #BlitzMax on it if that still works? Who knows.
I'm sure the function list will grow. Some DVD ripping again?
I know I can do most of this stuff with my #Mac but it's just different. I use that stuff for work like 95% of the time, and the rest of it is other hobby stuff like #photography, #video and #music.
The Macs need to keep running for that! It's also about context switching. The old PC will be a deliberate hobby PC, so there's a lot of room for tinkering.
Yes, first world problems and I can do all that with my Mac. Plus it's an excuse for a dedicated #Linux computer 😃. Another plus: no e-waste.
