Microsoft released an IPv6 Technology Preview for Windows 2000. It works! Management is all done with the command line and you're limited when it comes to support, but it does work! My Compaq Deskpro EN is now talking to the modern IPv6 world.

I finally located the version for Windows NT 4.0. Firefox 2.0 used IPv6 automatically!

@mroach my jaw is on the floor. Honestly.
@fluidlogic I could hardly believe it not only worked but worked without any effort. An OS from 1996 speaking IPv6. Love it 🤩
@mroach Only way to connect an NT box to the Internet without any firewalls and not be nista-hacked back then (and maybe even now, though I suppose nobody runs those exploits anymore)...
@ltning I don’t allow any incoming traffic so it’ll be fine. I wouldn’t be surprised if Windows 2000 and NT hacks still probe around. There are still plenty of installs with embedded systems!
@mroach most likely without happy eyeball, so when IPv6 is enabled just use it 👍

@mroach Cool.

I really liked 2K.
I remember trying remote desktop to my gaming computer

i had Win2K on my 34" curved monitor through that 🤣

@joany I absolutely love Windows 2000. That was peak Windows for me. Everything worked so smoothly and it was just a no-nonsense solid OS.
Hah I’ve also used Remote Desktop on my 4K display and it’s funny 😂
@mroach Can you provide links to the required packages to make this work?
@mroach At least that is probably obscure enough you might not get scanned by worms and other garbage trying to exploit old Windows if you went IPv6-only with a public address
@mixdup My router config doesn’t allow any incoming traffic, so it’s not actually exposed. I did consider setting up a VM on a separate VLAN and allowing it and seeing what happens.
