Darren FowerOver 𝟮𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 immigrants living legally in the UK are presently on a 10-year route to indefinite leave to remain (ILR). But, under proposals by Labour's #HomeSecretary, #ShabanaMahmood, if they've received benefits, the wait would double to 20 years!
The policy also says the qualifying period could be reduced by factors like; English competency, taxable income, working in public service, volunteering or being the parent of a UK citizen! The changes could be in force by April and it is expected they will apply retroactively!
