So they're rebooting the X-files. I loved the original, so I wish them well, but I wonder how you remake a show like that amid this cultural moment we're in?

How do you do a show about a pair of underdog FBI agents investigating a sinister conspiracy by the government when the people in charge of the government now believe in even crazier conspiracies than the show ever explored?

Unless you're going to have the agents investigating Epstein and his cronies, I don't know how you make a show like that relevant today.
@MLE_online
They'll turn it into copaganda I'm sure.
@botvolution I would like to giver Ryan Coogler the benefit of the doubt about that
@MLE_online aye. wish them well, but that moment is gone
@h2onolan Conspiracies were fun to think about back then. It's not fun anymore
@MLE_online i would like a show where Dana and Fox are salty underground railroad types, breaking fascism with alien tech and doing hydroponics
@h2onolan That's a fun premise, but that's more like one battle after another than the x files

@MLE_online They could subvert the original and have the FBI staffed by raving loons except for these two finding the reasonable explanations for everything. “They sent us to look for something called ‘the knife alien’, but instead we found a suspect with strong motive and a knife covered in blood. Hmm.”

There’s also plenty of traditional horror stuff available. Census worker disappears in a small town, they’re sent to investigate, and they run afoul of the violent cult. Early X-Files had a lot of creepy-but-not-aliens stories before the multi-season story got going.

@bob_zim I like that idea. It still needs to have a conspiracy of some kind though

@MLE_online I was mostly imagining Strangelove. Would be really hard to keep that up as anything other than a comedy. The small-town cult thing is a more serious possibility.

They could do something like The Outsider.

Take it a little too far and you end up in Fringe territory, though.

@MLE_online The FBI agents are sent to a small town in Colorado called Patience. The town doctor’s death has been reclassified as a murder, and the sheriff found a possible connection to organized crime in New York. The see a child running in fear from the new town doctor, screaming he’s an alien. Linda Hamilton is there.
@MLE_online So long as the skeptical agent has a million costume changes and giant shoulder pads, I'm sure it'll all work out fine.
@MLE_online It's like how House of Cards looks totally lame since the rise of Trump / MAGA.
