i could unscrew the bracket from the mobo but then it is impossible to screw it back with the cooler clip in the way

well, booting XP installer from USB turns out to be harder than even OS 9. pondering whether burning a CD or installing to the HDD via a VM would be less annoying

VM-installed XP on an IDE drive gets a bit further, to the "Windows failed to start up" screen where it offers safe mode and such. but no luck from there, safe mode or not

in order to feel like i accomplished something before i go to bed i installed Debian 12. but i accidentally accepted the default GNOME install option. it takes several eternities to boot and runs at 1 frame per sometimes. lol

@ahihi yeah, sorry, I use Allegro and that does not support ac97, but as @ozzelot pointed out, there are emulators.

I never tried #DOjS with it, but I had some success with VSBHDA and Doom, Duke3D and such...
